A Touch of Tarpon Springs History

One of Tarpon Springs’ best kept secrets is the 1883 Safford House Museum. Visiting the home of one of the city’s original developers is a journey back in time. The Safford House has been restored to its original Victorian splendor and is open to the public. Today the Safford residence is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and operated by the City of Tarpon Springs as a museum. The house is a fine example of late 19th century Florida vernacular architecture and is filled with period furnishings and original family possessions that bring the Safford family to life. A visit offers the opportunity to get acquainted with the family and to experience Florida life more than 100 years ago.

A Touch of Tarpon Springs History
This is a lovely historic home near downtown Tarpon Springs. Tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Gives you a feel for the area. We enjoyed our visit. It is open to the public Wednesdays and Fridays from 11-3 so plan accordingly.

    Amazing stories about this family...
Really incredible history here. Anson Safford was a visionary, & a huge advocate for woman's rights. He was a governor of Arizona before he came to Tarpon Springs, & together w/his friends & business associates, put Tarpon Springs on the map. This house is fascinating, & its story is captivating too. Loved our docent, & his stories were captivating too. We had an absolute blast. The Safford House is only open on Wednesdays & Fridays, but you can make an appointment to see it at another time if you call 727-937-1130 to schedule a private showing. Definitely worth the $3!
