The hidden gem in the highlands of Bahia, Brazil is a real challenge and deserve good attention if you find yourself in this fascinating part of the country. I went there with my wife for our 40th anniversary and, oh boy, what a trip. Deep inside the earth, to go down is a real challenge since the rustic steps are irregular and you need to grab the ropes, not to fall. Coming up even bigger demand and lots of strength on your knees and legs. But the gratification of the enchanted deep-Earth Lagoon is a visual miracle and outstanding beauty. This blue water cave at Bahia Highlands (Chapada Diamantina) is indeed a gift of nature! The color of the water varies between dark blue and light green. The question is when to go for a visit. Our visit was totally disturbed by two busses full of noisy and not well behaved tourist crowd, shouting, laying their belongs on top of rocks inside the water. It was hard even to take a picture of the water without photographing them. I recommend you to choose the coldest days of the year when the water will be colder in the 50s and appreciate this natural phenomenon! See more..

My family and I had a great time swimming in the cave. The water is very clear and you can see lots of fish. The staff was very helpful and the equipment provided was of good quality. It is a great experience when the lights are turned off inside the cave. A must do if you are in Lençóis. See more..

The 'Gruta da Fumaça' is a must if you like interesting calcite formations in a pretty exotic AND cosy environment. The name 'smoking cave' comes from the fact that it is pretty warm inside and after some heavy shower the water comes steaming out of the cave, hence the 'steaming cave' (Gruta da Fumaça). Interesting to silence for a moment and hear the noises that the bats make when they fly around ... like somebody pinging several fine crystal glasses at a time. I would like to mention as well that one should try to combine it with lunch time, as there is one of the most charming restaurants next to the cave, 'Restaurante da Fumaça' where you eat with locals and enjoy their local culinary specialties. You pay only 25R$ and you may eat as much as you want. The funny thing is that you have to drive quite some distance to end up almost in the middle of nowhere BUT there is working wifi ... amazing. A gruta é mais uma das atrações na caminhada pelo parque da Lagoa Azul. Apesar de ser uma gruta pequena, é um local agradável para parar na caminhada pelo parque, beber um pouco de água limpa, porque tem um córrego perto e apreciar os bordados de estalactites lindos. Seguindo aí também pode se ver o Cânion do Catão e toda uma exuberante vegetação de caatinga e formações rochosas de esplendorosa beleza. O acesso ao parque é de caro e tem a exigência de acompanhamento de um guia que é encontrado no Centro Turístico de São Desidério. See more..

Lugar maravilhoso...eh uma propriedade particular, mas o dono Sr. Dernival não cobra nada para visitas, só pede que os visitantes recolham seu lixo. Lá tem um bar onde a esposa do proprietário faz uma galinha de capoeira deliciosa, mas acho que tem que encomendar.
