    - Fantastic "Under the Volcano" day ride

    Icelandic HorseWorld image
"Under the Volcano" day ride Visited in July 2021 for a day ride as an experienced rider and had a lovely time. My horse Bassi was very sweet and responsive, with easy and comfortable tölt. The path along the river offered beautiful views out over the countryside and to the volcanoes and glaciers in the distance. My ride was led by Annika, who was very friendly and knowledgable. The stable and equipment all looked well maintained, and the horses are clearly well cared for and loved. Definitely recommend! See more..

    - AN ABSOLUTE MUST DO WHEN IN ICELAND
    Horseback Riding Tours
    Solhestar image
My and my friend booked the trip and I was a little scared as I never rode before. We got picked up from our hotel by 2 lovely guides- Danish ladies, which was helpful as we didn't need to worry about transportation and could enjoy the whole experience. Once we arrived we received protective gear and they helped up getting on the horses and gave us instructions. The horses were absolutely amazing! My little Biggie was such a sweetheart and even though I never done it before I felt safe and enjoyed the beautiful tril. Both guides were extremely helpful and kept checking on us to ensure we are ok and we even stopped for pictures. It was an over 2 hours trip and I was absolutely frozen and never felt such cold in my life but all worth it ! On return we got to spend some more time with the horses and received hot beverages to warm up. Overall the experience is worth the money and it's just gotta be done ! See more..

    Riding Tours South Iceland image
This is the best horse riding I have ever had on a borrowed horse. If you ride, but have never ridden an Icelandic you must try it, and no-where I’ve been has matched Riding Tours South Iceland. The horses are in beautiful condition, and my mount was very light, willing and easy to ride. The Icelandic saddle was comfortable and very secure. I was loaned a warm waterproof overall. The scenery was spectacular. But the icing on the cake was the Tolt, the gait that is unique to the Icelandic horse that is a very fast and comfortable walk that covers the ground effortlessly. My next horse will definitely be an Icelandic! I only did a 1 hour tour, but still saw some wonderful scenery. I strongly recommend you book by phone and be honest with your experience so they can match you to a suitable horse. Whenever possible they keep groups separate. I was lucky enough to have 1 to 1. What a spectacular ride! Ali picked us up from our Airbnb in Reykjavik (for an extra fee, cheaper than taking a taxi for our group of 4) and brought us to their property where the horses were all ready for our two hour ride. They took us through fields and a black sand beach where we all experienced the 5 gaits of the Icelandic horse. The horses were easy to maneuver and ride and beautiful with easygoing personalities. When we came back we all had coffee, tea, juice, biscuits and he brought out a tub of candy to snack on before Ali drove us back to the city. Highly recommend to everyone! We had to pay cash onsite because the website didn’t work when we tried to book, but they were quick to respond to my emails and had everything prepared ahead of time. See more..

How did we get so lucky? My daughter & I love Iceland and ride Icelandics frequently. This is our 5th time in the country (we came for Landsmót) and I can honestly say this was the best private riding experience ever. This farm is owned by legendary champion Siggi Sig, and his horses & staff did not disappoint! Our guide Katharina was beyond kind, patient and knowledgeable. The tour itself was in lush valleys, hills and rivers, full of tölting, cantering, galloping and even flying pace…we can’t wait to come back this week! Takk fyrir! See more..

The service and catering was perfect, the waitress and bartender was extremely nice and took care of each of our needs and showed us around and made sure we had a perfect stay. See more..

    Hekluhestar image
If you love horses and nature - you simply have to go! I would say this trip is to great to put into words, if you're a horse-person (doesn't have to be Icelandic horses you're use to riding) and you enjoy the wilds, this is something you really should let yourself experience. Riding in the beautiful Icelandic highland, in the Hekla area is just amazing, and with Hekluhestar you get the family-closeness as a free bonus ;) And the extra horses running free with you riding is so so special! I went for the 6 and the 8 days, and both trips are great, I liked the 8-days best, simply because its longer, and I never wanted to stop :) I also took the shorter trip around the farm, and that was great too. The horses are so strong, durable and incredible characters, so easy to fall in love with. Not coming back is simply not an option for me ;D See more..

We booked on the phone a ride just earlier on the day based on a recommendation from another riding guide. We did a ride with the amazing guide Thorsten (sorry for misspelling). There was just three of us and the route was planned according to our wishes. Ride was a two hours of walking, tölting and galloping. We crossed many streams and rivers. We saw two amazing waterfalls. We are not that experienced rides but the level was perfect for us. This ride was not for first time riders but I think they could adjust for that too. Thank you for the best riding experience we’ve had! See more..

I found them through VRBO and was stayed in their lovely 2-bedroom guesthouse overlooking the lake and their horse and lamb pasture. It was secluded and beautiful. The last day we booked a one-hour horse ride and Emma took us on a lovely ride. We only take horse rides on vacations, but these were the best behaved and happiest horses I have ever had the pleasure of riding. They are the breed unique to Iceland. Emma was a wonderful guide and they provided us with rain gear when the it started to rain right before the ride. It was all amazing and by far the highlight of our stay. See more..

My daughter had a private riding lesson and fantastic interaction with the horse and instructor. Highly recommended. See more..

    - Very Good 2 hour horseback ride to waterfall
Spent 2-3 hours Horseback Riding Tours
We emailed to book a private horseback ride to the waterfall in advance, but it seems like you could also arrive & book. The terrain is mountain & lots of trees, but the two hours with the icelandic horse and guide were really lovely! You can also stay here, eat ice cream here, and eat lunch here...we highly recommend the skyr burger, see our separate review of the restaurant. It's fun to eat ice cream at the table looking out the windows at the cows chomping their hay! See more..

Eyjalín & Róbert were amazing! They helped me to organize my engagement. A lot of providers turned down my request but they well excited as well as I was. They were very professional and we were well looked after. Eyja took amazing photos of us and even dared to go inside the waterfall to take the best shot. Even though we were not very experience riders the horses were very calm and easy to ride. They have some beautiful horses! If you are looking for a proper Icelandic horse experience look no further but River Horses. We will be coming back for a 3 day tour next year! See more..

There is a 8000 years old lava field to our west, the famous Hekla volcano hovering over us in east and the beautiful Ranga river half surrounding us in south.
