Of course it is a highlight of Wernigerode which you must visit. I did everything on foot but there is the little train which you can take to go up, I think it costs 4 euro. The entrance ticket costs 7 euro and the interior might be not very big but there are some interesting rooms which cannot be photographed. For example, a very large dining room. You must visit the garden for beautiful flowers and views. This is free. My tip is the viewing point of Agnesberg. It is a short hike in the forest and then you have a cool view of the castle from far.See more..

You can see this attraction in about two hours. My 4 and 5 year old boys loved it, especially the wells, the knights room with the suits of armor, and the indoor privy (they were fascinated by that). It brings castle living to life for them. The original spiral stairs in the museum are a bit steep and narrow, but with help, small children can navigate them safely. Exhibit descriptions are all in German, so read up before you go if you don't read/speak a lot of German. If you know something about how castle warfare was conducted, you will appreciate how extremely well designed this castle is (my husband said "German engineering was really good, even back then!"). Also, don't walk from the car park to the castle after rain as the long castle road is very muddy and slippery (much nicer from the comfort of the shuttle bus) and may be a bit far for small kids, especially after walking around the castle too.See more..

We rented one of the Ferien wohnungen this winter for several days. The apartments are super cheap in the winter months and the view is spectacular. Some of the apartments are in the castle walls and are very comfortable. If you arrive at night, don't follow the GPS drive through town past the Edeka market and follow the signs. There are some extra taxes that will be added to the bill but still you can't beat the price. In the Jägerhaus apartment electricity will be added to the bill. The castle sits above Stolberg so has a wonderful view of the village. Entry is free and I must say if I had to pay then I would have been disappointed. Some lovely displays of old wares from times gone by. A lot of the castle is closed as it is being renovated. Gardens pretty. The castle Blankenburg is an old residency from parts of the Welfen family with a lot of different uses over time. After being nearly destroyed and forgotten, it is now carefully being renovated and you can take guided tours through the old halls (German only I believe). This immense castle, which today is partly in ruins, was first mentioned in the 13th century. What you see today dates mainly from the 16th century. The Gothic chapel and the ruins of the moat and fortifications are impressive. The view of Mansfeld from the castle ramparts is picture perfect. Pleasant grounds containing a small museum and nothing like what you'd expect from a castle which I would more aptly title a mansion house. They have a small museum which there is a fee for Pleasant views and very nice function rooms and a small but pleasant restaurant serving fairly typical German cuisine. Hier hab ich heute eine uralte Burg entdeckt ( in den Jahren 840/899 schon als Hauptburg erwähnt !). Sie muss nur noch wachgeküsst werden ,denn sie findet kaum Bedeutung ( bisher !) im kulturinteressierten Deutschland.
Sie liegt ein wenig abseits gelegen , aber das ist ja gerade das Schöne !
Schon im 9.Jahrhundert hatte sie eine herausragende Bedeutung als Königs-und Kaiserpfalz !
Deshalb sollte man sich auf jeden Fall diese Burg nicht entgehen lassen !
Burgführung , Schloßcafé mit leckerem Kuchen , es ist für Kurzweil gesorgt . Sogar heiraten ist hier in der urigen Hauptburg möglich !
Und wer hier mit Freunden Geburtstag feiern möchte , zünftig und mit offener Feuerstelle in der Wohnküche , auch das ist Möglich !
Mir hat es hier sehr gut gefallen , und das Personal hier ist auch sehr nett !
Ob in der Woche ( ruhig ) oder am WE ( schon ein wenig Trubel ) mit geöffneter Vorburg , man sollte es sich nicht entgehen lassen !

It was a big surprise that this old castle has a watch tower with red and white flag flying. That is the same as our Indonesian flag! Walking ahead, kids found something to play; the retro punishment wood. As we saw in many films there was a cutting head law in the middle age there. It’s scary to imagine that. I didn’t dare to try. Cross by is a horse stable. We came inside the gate. No tickets were needed. It was empty. I took photos of sculptures on the right and left side of the small museum. Von Magdeburg kommend, durchquert man das Biosphärenreservat Mittlere Elbe auf dem ostelbischen Elbradweg. Auf der Höhe von Dornburg führt der sehr gut ausgebaute Radweg direkt an der Elbe entlang. Man biegt Richtung Ortschaft ab und kommt auch gleich am Schloß vorbei. Eine Prinzessin aus Anhalt-Zerbst, die später Zarin werden sollte, hat hier ab und zu verweilt. Meines Wissens kann man das Innere nicht besichtigen bzw. es lohnt nicht. Fährt man die Straße nur ein Stückchen weiter kommt man zu einem beliebten Ausflugslokal, Lipperts Pausen-und Gaststübchen, mit der besten Kuchenauswahl zwischen Magdeburg und Dessau. Mosigkau Palace is one of the Rococo palaces in this part of Germany, built as summer palace for the unmarried Princess Anna Wilhelmine of Anhalt. Most of the rooms are still in their original state of the 18th century. Particularly nice is the large Gallery. The palace is part of the UNESCO heritage of Dessau and Woerlitz. The interior can be visited only with a guided tour (lasts around 1 h), photography permit is 3 EUR. The park is quite nice as well.See more..

Westelbien, eine kleine Stadt bei Gardelegen. Ab 1344 befand sich die Familie von Bismarck im Besitz eines Teils des Orts Döbbelin. Es handelte sich um eine der ältesten Besitztümer der Familie. Seit 1991 wird das Gutshaus wieder privat durch die Familie von Bismarck genutzt. Daher gibt es auch keinen Zugang, wohl aber kann man es von aussen betrachten und den schmucken, frisch renovierten Zustand begutachten und wertschätzen. Hier haben Menschen gelebt, die deutsche Geschichte geschrieben haben. Alleine das reicht für einen Besuch aus.See more..
