We booked a private tour for our group of 8 for a half day tour. Highly recommend having a guide as we would have missed many animal and insect sightings without help. They can also offer a lot additional info that improves the experience. Have to say though that the crowds for me were a bit too much and negatively impacted the experience. Just something you have to deal with during peak season given the popularity of this site. Still worth doing but be prepared to be dodging people throughout your walk. Also, I didn't find the bugs to be bad at all. They we're basically non-existent from my perspective. There's no food or drink allowed in the park so be sure to eat ahead of time. There is a snack bar in the park but the options aren't great and it gets very busy. See more..
  2. 4.5 Corcovado National Park (1.306 reviews)
    - A remote tropical rainforest accessible with guides

    Corcovado National Park image
We reserved our trip to Costa Rica with the best outfitter who takes guests to this remote location. We stayed at the closest lodging to it, and this park met all our expectations. We had a guide who works on jaguar research take us through the park each morning. We were given “Wellies” to wear by our lodge to comfortably accomplish several wet crossings and some muddy trails. You know you are in a remote wilderness once there. Coati troops traveled along beside us because their predators fear humans. The plants and birds were unlike other places we visited. If you are fit and interested, a trip here is remarkable. See more..

My friend and I spent 2-3 days in Bahia/Uvita and went to the park daily. The first evening we were lucky with timing because it was low tide and we were able to walk out onto the whales tale. It was sunset and the reflection of the clouds and sun onto the beach was stunning. The next day we propped ourselves under a tree and spent a lovely morning enjoying the perfect temperature water and crashing waves. Hardly any other tourists so it was relaxing and we were able to be shaded by the trees. We also went surfing a colones beach (also part of the park). I would definitely recommend a day trip or a few days in the area. See more..
  4. 4.5 Carara National Park (271 reviews)
    - A walk through Carara National Park
    National Parks
    Carara National Park image
Carara National Park is no where near as busy as Manuel Antonio Park. The parking was free and plentiful. The cost is $10 US per person which gets you a full day to walk the trails. You are still near the beach so it is hot. Bug spray, a long sleeve shirt and long pants are a must. A good pair of hiking boots is a good idea as there is a lot of trail to walk. I recommend going with a guide who are stationed near the ticket office. We went with Jairo Sanches, who is an acredited guide with the government. He has a great deal See more..

The bioluminescence boat tour in Curu Wildlife refuge was such an amazing experience. From the kind father and daughter who took us on the boat and fed us fruits, to the beautiful sunset and infinite stars as the boat was crossing the bay to the sparks of light while moving your legs and hands in the water. Unforgettable experience! See more..

  7. 5.0 Up in the Cloud Forest (65 reviews)
    - Nice adventure in the cloud forest

Up in the Cloud Forest image
We took the whole package, with walk over the bridges, train to the top and zip lines down. The walk is the sort in which you will see something, with the zip lines everything goes by very fast. It is a lot of fun, but do not think that you'll be able to see wildlife around! A word of advice, do not wear light garments since the ziplines wheels will drop lots of water with iron powder/rust on you, redecorating you from the head down! Strong dark shoes, jeans, fleece jacket (you'll go up to 1700 m (over 5000 fts) with very strong winds, and dark waterproof jacket. Good idea to wear eyeglass, but they will get very dirty. - Amazing park with great biodiversity

    Manuel Antonio National Park image
Amazing park with lots of wildlife. The park is easily accessible and if you walk the entire route you can spend about 4 hours. There are several beachy areas so if you like to swim bring the right clothing. The park is well maintained. Warning: when driving there go as far up to the entrance as you can, about 50 meters before there it has a (paid) parking on your right hand. Anything before that is a scam, people in ranger outfits trying to help you park and afterwards will ask a higher cost and the walk is further. The folks waiting in the streets in front of the entrance are extremely pushy. We did the walk without guide which was perfectly fine (we only missed the binoculars) See more..

We went on a tour. The park was crowded but paths were carefully laid out and the animals were easily pointed out. We would not have seen nearly as much if we had been there alone. The beach was wide and sandy. Worthwhile visit. See more..
