The go-to dive centre on Tioman: highly recommended

I have dived with B&J on Tioman several times. This latest trip again confirmed that they are one of the most professional dive operations on the island: good for both experienced leisure divers like myself, and for learners from beginners upwards to much higher levels. Their facilities, equipment and operations are all of good quality, and well run. And their staff, from owners Ben and Martin downwards, are friendly and generally a delight to deal with. A further bonus is that they have what is now virtually the only decent bar on the island, right beside the dive centre and their adjacent Tioman Dive Resort. The latter is also a good place to stay at, with well maintained quality rooms (though there are other cheaper options nearby if you are on a budget).

An eco-conscious dive shop that is making a difference
Through the efforts of Reef Check Malaysia and this dive centre, Tioman Island is a spot of environmental hope amid the despair of the rest of Malaysia. To get here you leave on a ferry from Mersing, a trash choked ocean town than leaves you depressed, but once you arrive to ABC Beach where this dive shop is located all that changes. They recycle, there is filtered water available without having to buy plastic water bottles, and they work together to remove the rubbish that washed up from elsewhere (including massive ghost nets). The dive shop reports to reef Check Malaysia to help protect this beautiful island and the efforts have made a difference- the diving is good, there is still healthy reef left, and the fish populations are recovering. I definitely recommend diving with B&J if you dive because you love the ocean and want to protect it, because they practice what they preach. I was very impressed.
