Lake Thunderbird State Park, Oklahoma, United States

3.5 (116 reviews) Spent Ranking #9 in Norman State Parks

Beautiful Lake with Great Mountain Bike Trails

Lake Thunderbird State Park has some very hilly mountain bike trails, a nice change from the normally flat terrain of central Oklahoma. While the trails were quite sandy, they are decently taken care of and can easily be handled by both new and experienced mountain-bikers. The trails are accessible to hikers and parking is very easy. A great place to spend the day!

    Little Sandy Campground
Stayed at the campground as we were passing thru town. Chose the Little Sandy area because of the variety of sites, proximity to restrooms and showers, including premium lakeside sites. Our lakeview site was level, paved, with picnic table, fire ring, 50amp service and water. Beautiful views. We were greeted by the camp host a couple hours after we set up. Downside...restroom and shower facilities are dated and not very clean. Bathroom was without toilet paper. And be aware, two shower stalls were free, and two cost 50 cents for 3 minues

Very nice park, but some people maybe rude
The staff is excellent. When we got to our site found out the water was being used by 2 other campers. We called and they were able to move us to a better place. The problem is the people. It seems like some do not care. The showers, one was out of service, the other had too many spiders and the one shower was ok. You have to pay for the shower with quarters. The ladies' bathroom was very filthy. Body waste was smeared on the walls and door. The Guys bathroom, someone had pooped in the urinal and one toilet had overflowed. There were urine and poop footprints on the floor. It is a shame people would do this to this wonderful park. Another guy had large speakers outside his trailer blasting country music all day. But the music was good. He did stop it in the evening. The park is excellent. It's just the people who do not respect the park.
