Lovely walk
We combined our pilgrimage to the death place of D’Artagnan with a walk from Helport along the outside of the city walk, we could have done this is 10-15 mins but we took about 40 minutes as there was so much to see, fantastic trees & carvings decorate the area. The university buildings were interesting from the outside. The statue was worth the wait. ‘All for one, One for All.’

History comes to life
Who has never seen a movie of the three musketeers? The story is partly based on the memoirs of Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan. He came to Maastricht with the army of Louis XIV, and was killed there in 1673. Probably the immortalisation of this person in the stories of Alexandre Dumas contributed to the cult around him in Maastricht. The statue, made by the Russian sculptor Alexander Taratynov, is beautifully executed and more than man-sized.

Yes ... There Was A Real D'Artagnan
Situated in the Aldenhof Park outside the city centre. A nice walk by the river, passing by an aviary and a small animal enclosure and then arrive at the statue. The statue pays tribute to the 'real' D'Artagnan who was the captain of the musketeers and was killed during the siege of Maastricht in 1673.
