We chose to visit on the last day of the year but cars are limited so there is no over crowding. Just get there early to ensure entrance. The roads are great and offer little side loops to maximise the. Jew of animals. We had an an amazing elephant sighting on the main road with at least a dozen elephant including calves. Very special. Lots of monkeys at the beach parking areas and they can be bothersome so watch your belongings. See more..

Hluhluwe - iMfolozi Park Wilderness Area image
The visit to the game reserve would not have been a highlight to my family if it was not for the impeccable service rendered by A enthusiastic youngster who has a tour operator permit and vehicle to take my family on the 3 hour tour of the game park. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the wild and the education of the environment and the animals in the reserve was second to none. It was indeed a pleasurable expierence that my family immensely enjoyed. Mzoe of Mzoeafrica89 tour company comes highly recommended by myself and my family. Try him and get the true African Expierence. I look forward to doing another tour drive with him when possible. Regards Mr Salim Tootla See more..
  3. 5.0 Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Centre (378 reviews)
    - Incredible display of these remarkable creatures!

Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Centre image
I am always hesitant about going to rehabilitation or rescue centers for animals (or of the sorts), as you never truly know if it's for a good cause or purely for profit. Happy to have my mind put at ease and know that Falcon Ridge truly do what they do for the good of the cause and to create awareness around these remarkable birds of prey! The show only runs once a day starting at 10:30 AM (closed on select days). I would recommend arriving a bit earlier to get a good spot and to see some of the birds in their enclosures before the show begins. Incredible photographic opportunities (if you are fast enough with the shutter), but ultimately a great place to really sit back and enjoy the show. The owners seem extremely passionate about what they do, which really makes you immerse yourself in the experience even more. I also loved how they got their teenage kids involved in the show, which just shows how this legacy will be carried on for generations to come! See more..
  4. 5.0 Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve (365 reviews)
    - Serene experience on safari at Nambiti Game Reserve...
Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve image
We arrived at the Woodlands gate after driving from the Talana museum in Dundee and entered the park and then parked our vehicle at the secure, private parking facility. Collected from there by our guide for four days, we then had a mini safari on the way to our incredible accommodation, Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge. A magnificent place to stay and relax, five star formula and it lived up to its bill from the moment we arrived. Very friendly and efficient staff, fantastic cuisine throughout, grand nights sleep but best of all the amazing safari experience. Excellent guide/ranger in Joe, so relaxed, he just knew the best way in approaching the animals, reading the situation and all the big five apart from the elusive leopard were viewed at close quarter throughout. An experience never to be forgotten, well managed and the perfect place to visit before heading into the Drakensberg's. See more..

    - Such a nice place

    Phezulu Safari Park image
I came here on impulse taking an Uber from Durban and I didn’t regret it! It wasn’t very busy on a Saturday, I was able to get a ticket to the nearest game drive which I enjoyed very much. We saw zebra, all kinds of antipopes, giraffes and smaller animals really really close, took great pictures, and the views were fantastic. After the game drive I got a combined ticket for the reptile park and Zulu dancing show. I went to the reptile park first and was told that I’d be welcome to come back again with the same ticket after the Zulu show, which was super nice. The Zulu dance was a staged show but it was quite fun, I felt like it would be even better if they lit a fire and let the viewers dance with them lol. They let me play a Zulu drum after the show which felt amazing. Overall the place felt super friendly and relaxing and has very nice hill views! See more..

    Natal Shark Board image
Popped along whilst on holiday in the area as this looked to be an interesting thing to do. It definitely lived up to expectations. The displays are interesting and informative and I learnt a great deal about sharks that I didn’t previously know … inc the fact that shark nets don’t actually prevent the sharks swimming around, under or over them !!! I narrowly missed the morning “show” but hung around in the hope that the 2pm show would go ahead (they need a minimum number of attendees of around 15 to make it worthwhile). Thankfully it did go ahead & this was also fascinating as we were able to watch an informative video & witness the dissection of a small hammerhead shark that had become entangled in the nets & died recently. If you have a couple of hours to kill, or are interested in sharks, definitely pop along to this. See more..

Things to Do in KwaZulu-Natal image
Since there don't appear to be a lot of recent reviews on the campsite, with photos...here you go. There are 5 campsites, all fairly close together, but in good condition overall. Pros: Powered sites fairly level sites Tarred road all the way Clean ablutions, no bad smells Cons: No water taps near campsites (only at washing up area) No hot water at wash up area Pool not functional at all Fireplaces needing servicing No privacy from other campsites (all looking at each other) This place would be great for a large group of friends if they rent out all five sites though. Additionally, there are 2-sleeper rest huts on the premises for rent, should some of the group prefer to sleep in a bed, with their own toilet and shower (shared kitchen for rest huts only) Great as a staging spot to explore the surrounding area though, with Lake Eland, Oribi Gorge Swing, Port Shepstone Beach, Leopard Rock cafe all nearby, as well as a few hikes within the gorge. We would definitely go again! See more..

Okay, so we got a bit lost. As the reserve and the historical battlefields are not "at the same place". But we would like to thank the security guard whom helped us with a detailed instruction pamplet to manage our way to the monumental sight. Without it whe would have never got the place as the signs is small and the little gps signal makes it and adventure but also a confusing ride. Great outing! See more..

This game reserve offers so much more than just animals. We saw elephants, giraffes, rhinos and countless buck, monkeys, zebras, birds ext. And we even lucky to see leopard. Eating breakfast we were also graced with elephant coming to drink from pond. If you are 4x4 person this place is a must with different routes on offer. But even in small vehicle you can do most of the routes. I would recommend booking a game drive as this is excellent way to see the animals and also very educational, learning interesting facts about the animals. There are no lions but this should not put you off as (don't always see lions when visit game reserve with lions) but it does mean there a hiking routes with stunning views. Also they offer camping on site and lovely picnic areas when have a braai/BBQ. The best thing about this place are the views which are just out of this world. Staff are very friendly and the food was very good. Accomodation was very spacious and clean. Well worth a visit. See more..

We had a wonderful two-night stay at Umlalazi and thoroughly enjoyed it. Chalets and reserve as a whole were clean, well maintained and a pleasure to visit. We took walks through the mangrove swamps, over the dunes to the beach and through the coastal dune forest towards the river mouth and it's all beautiful. My husband and sons spent a lot of time fishing while I spent a lot of time relaxing in the shade of trees on the river banks. I have recently returned from a 10 night stay at Zimanga. What an experience, the chance to walk with Cheetahs, use the excellent day & night hides as well as see the variety of animals on game drives. I have been on several safaris before but nothing comes close to matching the close up experience and the professionalism of our guide Calvin (spotting a leopard in tree from 400m - awesome). The accommodation was very comfortable and the staff extremely attentive and flexible. I can't recommend Zimanga enough, if you are into wildlife photography and only go on one safari then this is the location. Kamberg Nature Reserve image
Kamberg, with only five well-placed self-catering chalets is the ideal getaway-from-it-all hideaway in the central Drakensberg. Set in a beautiful valley with the mountain range as a backdrop, we stayed there for six days recently, and it was one of the most refreshing breaks I've had. There's not much to do except watch the scenery, sit in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine, or take short walks to Bushman paintings, the one or two waterfalls in the area, or amble down to the trout dams for birdwatching, and if you're lucky, see the otters frolicking the water. The chalets are comfortable and well-equipped (I recommend number 1 for privace or 5 for the best view). I've visited many other Drakensberg places in the KZN Wildlife range (Didima, Giants Castle, Royal Natal) and while some of the others have more spectacular mountainscapes than Kamberg, the latter takes the price for peace and tranquility. There is a place in Africa where the wild elephants still roam. The legendary Ivory Route where the great tuskers still tramp their ancient pathways through dense sand-forest and tall yellow grass. This is Tembe Elephant Park, a 300 square kilometer reserve between Zululand and Mozambique, home to Africa’s largest elephants as well as the smallest antelope, the suni. The Big Five also find their home here – lion, leopard, black and white rhino and buffalo, as well as more than 340 bird species and myriad other animals and plants. It is a world of hot silence and white sand, where the busy modern world ceases to exist and only the rising and setting of the sun marks the passage of time. It is also the ancestral home of the Tembe people, who co-own and manage Tembe Elephant Park Lodge: a place of warm African hospitality, classic safari food, world-class personal service. Up in the mountains we saw a family of baboons which we watched from afar. It was a very hot day but we found shelter behind huge boulders or in caves and paddled our feet in the river on our way back to the car. We found fast flowing water from a stream was safe to drink. What an amazing find. In the heart of Hillcrest there is a sliver of nature waiting to be discovered along easy to walk trails, across streams, through forest and open grassland. There is a well maintained picnic site too and ample parking. Highly recommended for a morning or afternoon family outing to get some real fresh air without traveling too far. See more..

    Harold Johnson Nature Reserve image
I got there at 6:30, the office opens at 7 but Nosipho was very helpful and explained what was available as far as activities and walks go. I did the 5km trail which was really nice (best to be done early in summer as it gets very hot) I took my own water and snacks as advised by other reviewers. I only got a few photos of birds and my advice is to try arrange a guide to spot and identify, that would make the walk a lot better. I’ll definitely go back. See more..

I was there on a public holiday and it was very busy but I found the place extremely clean, roads were great. Very friendly staff at the entrance and very helpful as well. I was surprised as to how busy the place was and how clean it was. They were mowing lawn even on a public holiday which makes one realise how they keep the place at a top standard. Well done to all the staff there. Great place for birding as there are a lot of birds around. Worth a visit for a relaxing day with friends and family. See more..

Nestled in the foothils of Mount Moreland, just 25 minutes away from Durban this hidden gem would open your eyes to a viewing of over 3 million barn swallows that descend every evening to roost. Be sure to pack a picnic basket and bring along deck chairs half an hour before sunset to enjoy this magnificence. It would also be recommended to carry anti-mosquito cream, binoculars and your camera. There is a small entrance fee of R10 per person which goes toward the conservation and preservation of the site. NOTE : THE SEASON FOR BARN SWALLOWS ARE FROM NOVEMBER TO APRIL See more..
