Great place to visit :-)

My wife and I have visited Scotney Castle and Gardens a couple of times, and we can recommend it as a place to visit. It is free of charge if you are a member, if not it is £14 per adult. My favourite part is the out building near the lake/pond, (see photos).

Saw more of the grounds on this visit, thanks to lockdown restrictions
On the day we visited Scotney Caster 900 people had booked in (which is compulsory and must be done at least the before, several days before it you want to arrive at a specific time slot), consequently, it was busier this year during lockdown then when we visited last summer! There was a small queue to get in and parked, a long slow queue was for those who wanted to buy hot food – we strongly recommend bringing a picnic (plenty of picnic benches available) and just buying a hot drink from the hut and not the main café. A one-way system is currently in place around the grounds – this works very well as we saw more of the grounds this time than on our previous visit! Conclusion: Lovely grounds, very picturesque old castle, but do bring a picnic (many people brought their picnic into the grounds and sat on the hill overlooking the lake and castle. N.B. You can’t even park, use the loos or visit the café without a booking.

    An enjoyable few hours
The quaitness of this castle is that it is in the condition as it was when left by the previous owners. As the castle is not huge a restricted number of people are allowed in at one time. The walk down to and around the old castle is picturesque. Hop tours are available. There is a small shop and cafe with both outside and inside tables, though at this time of the year the wasps are a bit of a nuisance, the scones were excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
