This museum is definitely worth the visit!! I strongly recommend you review some of the history of the Winter War (1939-40) and the Russian invasion with two full Divisions against a few hundred Finn soldiers, Border Guards, and Reserves who managed to stop the Russians cold! The museum has a battle display showing the action of the Ratte Road fight and uniforms and weapons of the combatants. It has excellent and very professional displays and is awe inspiring to think about what happened here the winter of 1939. The display of the tribute outside the museum is also sobering. It has 17 acres of stones on the ground representing the number of soldiers on both sides who died in this battle of Suomussalmi and Raatte Road. The history of this Winter War tends to be lost in the subsequent world conflict of World War II, but the bravery of the participants on both sides of this battle must never be forgotten.See more..
