Worth a visit, but don't pay the exorbitant entry fee!
Jing Yue Tan (Crystal pool) is an interesting place to visit if you're in the Changchun area. It's a large forest park on the south eastern out skirts of the city, at the far end of the light rail system. (Don't take the bus, it takes forever!) By Chinese standards, this place offers some peace and quiet from the manic hussle in the city. The park itself is vast, on one side there is a ski resort of sorts, with chairlifts and restaurants - and some very good cross country skiing if you're into that sort of thing. Everything can be hired for the right price. There is another entrance that takes you to an observation tower, which on clear days affords a great view of Changchun and its surrounds. Many people come to Jung Yue to breathe the cleaner air, you may even notice the smog cloud hanging over the city and the newly built mansions in the vacinity, home to the super rich. There is also a lilly pond, which is a must in the late spring - many bring along picnics. The park itself has a very steep (120 yuan!!) entrance fee so just follow the locals around the entrance up a road, along a well trodden track through a gap in the fence.

A summer vacation experience to Jingyu Pool
This stunning landside park on the southeast of outskirts of Changchun encompasses over 90 square kilometers and is a most welcome break if you you have to spend any time in the motor city. Established in 1934, it is characterized with well-tended gardens, pavillions, lookouts and a 20km round-the-lake bike bath. Shuttle buses take you to the dam, where you can catch boat. At the frontgate there are bike rentals. The easiest way to get there is to take the light rail from the station on Liaoning Road
