This 16th century gate is the landmark of Elburg
Approach the fortified town from the harbour side or from the land side, called Oostendorp, the "Vischpoort", the 16th century gate in the fortifications, is a landmark which will come into the picture immediately. See the photo. What the Tower is for London and the Eiffel Tower for Paris, is the Vischpoort for Elburg, on a much smaller scale of course.

The only city gate that is left in town..... a solid landmark
This is one of the main landmarks that can be seen in this town... it is an impressive sight to see this gate from a distance.... You can't go in, but you can go under it... it gives you an idear what this little town must have been like... that it has quite some history... this gate dates back from the 16th century and it has changed much since. A must see in this town, but to be honest you can't miss it!.

Lovely old gate
The Vischpoort is a lovely gate to the city as many in the Netherlands. Elburg itself is such a charming town with the cobble stone streets and charming atmosphere and the Vischpoort provides the a fitting entrance.
