Nice park on the hill offering view over city and the Waal river

It is located close to the city centre on a hill. Apart from trees and bushes there are ruins of a church as well as a tower accommodating a restaurant. From the hill top there is great view over Waal river and its bridges as well as part of the old town. One can walk it around in 15 min or take it easy and sit on a bench and admire the place and view for an hour or longer.

    Beautiful historica site
    It never starts to bore me, historical places like this. To know that hundreds of years ago people lived here, eating and drinking and hopefully happy. It is on a small Hill in a park where you have a beautiful photographic spot of the river De Waal and the Waalbridge. During the Second World War there was a huge battle over this bridge. In the touristic center (called the VVV) people can give more information.

    Great views from an historic park
    Forming the Eastern extremity of Nijmegen's city centre, the Valkhof is an interesting park built on the site of a former Roman encampment overlooking the Waal. The park's elevated position means it has a few fine viewpoints along with its other attractions which include an attractive little chapel and the ruins of a former palace. After spending an afternoon wandering around the city, it was nice to retreat to this park for a bit of peace, greenery and the aforementioned fine views.
