Huge pool in nature setting

Great place to spend a few hours with kids on a warm day. Setting is unique. As with most pools in the Netherlands, don't assume there will be lanes roped off for lap swimming. It's all about having fun. The competition pool is a free for all on a busy weekend. On the flip side, on colder rainy days, you can often get the entire competition pool to yourself! Check the opening times as they are limited in the shoulder season.

    What a lovely facility!
We had seen the location of this swimming pool (opposite the Apenheul) a few years ago and needed an excuse to visit. The perfect opportunity presented itself when we holidayed nearby, during the recent mini heat wave (with September temperatures hitting 33/34C). Het Boschbad (Kristal Bad?) is situated in the forest, on the outskirts of Apeldoorn, and surrounded by mature trees and bordering on the huge forest that stretches all across the North Veluwe. The facilities are good but basic, similar to other open air pools and municipal swimming facilities we have encountered in the Netherlands. There is a nice, large pool for lane swimming, with a section set aside for diving. There is also a shallow 'splash pool' for small children. The 3rd pool was a fun/recreational pool, with 2 large slides. The green slide was great fun, but the red slide was absolutely breath taking! If it wasn't for the long climb up the metal staircase each time, these slides would have been rammed. Great fun, especially when most youngsters were in school and the place wasn't too crowded. Good staff supervision around the pools and near the changing rooms. For €5.50 pp we could have stayed all day, brought a picnic, lounged on the grass, swam, climbed, slided, dived, floated, etc, but we called it a day after a couple of hours. We found the Boschbad a wonderful, well-kept facility and great fun. Highly recommended!
