Beautiful architecture

This is a very pleasant square with fantastic old buildings built with traditional Dutch architecture of the time. There are bars, cafes and shops nearby although as it was cold, the place seemed a little quiet. Worth a visit

    Pleasant market square
This marks the beginning of the Old Town in Nijmegen, near Lange Hezelstraat. Plenty of places to eat and have a drink on the market square, and there are a few traditional elements to admire, but many no longer stand due to the carpet-bombing during the Second World War. It’s a newer place than the likes of Arnhem and other bordering municipalities.

    Beautiful survivor
This large market square was fortunately spared from the bombing campaigns that flattened much of Nijmegen, leaving us with a glimpse into what the city must once have looked like. It's a lovely space flanked by several attractive old buildings, most notably the Waagh which now houses a cafe. A few ugly modern buildings compromise the effect somewhat, but these are easy enough to ignore. We visited on a Saturday, when the open-air market was in full swing, attracting large crowds and encouraging us to stock up on tasty Dutch treats from the numerous stalls. A good focal point from which to orientate yourself before exploring the rest of the city.
