An interesting half day trip from Zadar
A visit to the Zrmanja canyon was not on our to do list for Zadar. It was only a couple of weeks before our trip to Croatia, that we were introduced to this beautiful destination on a travel show. We had our car and hence had no trouble planning a visit to the canyon. We did in two ways. The first was to see the canyon from above and the next was a boat ride on the Zrmanya river. Each one gives you a different perspective and I would strongly recommend both. To reach the viewpoint / lookout called “Pariževićeva Glavica”, type “Pueblo VinetuPariževačpuebloka“ on google maps and it takes under 45 min to drive from Zadar. Do not worry If you do not have access to google maps. Take the road from Jasenice to Obrovac (which is the starting point of all the boat tours across Zrmanja river). As you drive towards Obrovac, you will see telephone poles on the right side of the road. These poles are numbered. Take the dirt road between the poles 86 and 87. After about 1 km you will reach the lookout where several scenes from Karl May's "Winnetou" was filmed. After visiting the canyon from above, drive to Obrovac (less than 15 min drive). We had pre-booked a boat tour with Riva Rafting Centar. Since they got a booking for a group of 35 people for the same time slot, we were lucky to given a private 2 hour tour. The tour takes your all the way till the where there meets the sea. Having seen the canyon from above, the boat tour offered a completely different experience. On a side note, we did not find any restaurant in Obrovac centre. The best option for lunch is Restaurant Duje Ribnica 70, Obrovac 23450 (about 10 kms from Obrovac centre)

A perfect day in fantastic nature
For the first time in my life I went canoeing and I was really excited. The Zrmanja River in the Dalmatian hinterland doesn't run that much water, so it's no wild water rafting. But it runs through a fantastic nature - rocky and lush with the smell of different herbs in the air, the water being crystal clear and fresh. Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes, it is so beautiful!!! The canoe trip was led by Frane, owner of the Flash Tours agency from Novigrad, who is a total outdoorsman and knows the river very well. We had canoes for two persons and had to paddle ourselves, but that wasn't hard and a lot of fun. We made stops many times to go for a swim or jump off the waterfalls. After the tour, Frane prepared a grill picnic at his camp by the river, yummy! It was an awesome trip, I'd recommend it to anyone always!
