Beautiful but busy

We parked at Skardin and bought our ticket there so we had the free boat cruise to the main waterfalls (Skradinski buk). There only seemed to be one walk way taking this route around Skradinski buk which was lovely however very very busy with lots of people just posing for the perfect photo rather than taking in the beauty around them. If we were to visit again we would hire bikes or take a different entrance so that we could appreciate the beauty of the park without the crowds. Swimming in the lake at the bottom of Skradinski buk was not that pleasurable as it was just so crowded. It was difficult to get in and out and it is a real tourist trap. It might be the best waterfall but that is why there are so many people there and also where the restaurants and shops are which just take away from the nature.

    Beautiful, but very overcrowded
This score is an average of 5 stars for spectacular scenery and one star for organisation appropriate during a pandemic. We were slightly concerned about the possibility of crowding given previous comments relating to the situation during August in previous years, but given that everywhere else had been quite quiet, decided to chance it. We originally tried to book tickets online but the website had a message stating this was not possible due to the covid19 situation so had no choice but to turn up and see what it was like. We arrived mid morning and were reassured by the short queue at the ticket office. Boarding the boat we were asked to wear masks, but many passengers removed these as soon as they were onboard. The 15 minute boat ride to the falls was pleasant enough but at the other end the situation was not good - large crowds of people not social distancing and it was impossible to get anywhere near the edge of the lake (where we had hoped to swim (or even to take a photo of the falls) without being in danger of getting barged into. We stayed for around half an hour, then felt so uncomfortable we got the boat back to Skladin and swam in the lake there, which was much more pleasant. The falls and the area around are beautiful, but sadly our trip was spoilt by the over crowding. Even without a pandemic on, it would have been too busy ! At 600 kuna for a family to enter this was not a cheap trip and ideally, we would have liked to see some sort of number controls being imposed. This would have been easily achieved by requiring visitors to book online in advance.
