This castle is very interesting, it has the most wonderful roof structure and you can make your way up to the top of the building to look all around. People come from far and wide to admire it. You are free to go where you want in the castle, everyone enjoys it and in the summer there is a fantastic show telling the history of the castle. There are 400 horses and riders involved and it's well worth the ticket.See more..

Totally amazing restoration across the multiple ages of the chateaux. The ground levels are from the middle ages, the upper floors from the early 20th century. 12th century floor tiles, medieval wall paintings, stories on the placards, archive exposition, etc. Amazing views across the fields to the Burgundy canal and locks to the hills. At 5 Euro a bargain to visit.See more..
4.5Chateau de Joux(421 reviews) - An exellent guided tour Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Castles
It was one of the most interesting excursions in the castles I've ever met, with a lot of amazing stories told by the guide, a young girl. And it was very long. At the end all the visitors applauded very sincerely. Attention - really a lot of steps up and down during the tour!See more..
We visited here late one sunny afternoon and were pleasantly surprised. The driveway to the chateau was a tree lined hill with a small car park and you then walked up to the entrance. We paid a small fee (discounted when we produced our ticket for Chastelleux which we’d visited a few days previously) and then entered the grounds. The front of the chateau has an incredible view across a valley and has manicured lawns and hedging. We were given an English guide and proceeded into the chateau. It has around 12 rooms which you can visit and see all the old furniture and decor. Yes some of it needs refurbishing but that added to the charm in my opinion. The family trees were the most interesting of all, dating back to some time in the 1200’s!! We were the for around 1.5 hours and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Well worth the money paid. See more..
Do not expect to see much inside, but outside is impressive. Theres a puzzle for small children which is nice. If you do not want to spend €7 each just walking around the commune and viewing the castle from outside is also nice.See more..
Had an amazing afternoon on this castle tour. Beautiful grounds, great history and you can get a room. Next time in Burgundy this may just be where we choose to stay. Rooms include wine tasting and tour! And there are only 3 rooms available. Will be back to sample wines for sure.See more..
4.0Berze le Chatel(213 reviews) - Fantastic! Ancient Ruins • Castles
We stumbled over Berze le Chatel by accident, while taking the tourist route to Cluny/Macon (D17). We were captivated by the site and drove up to the castle not realising that we were able to actually pay and walk in. It wasn't very expensive (less than €8 for an adult if I remember correctly) and our 20 year-old and 14 year-old received student discounts, and well worth the money. The castle is impressive, immaculately kept and affords incredible views of Burgundy ... There were only a handful of people there on a really hot day - I couldn't understand why this place wasn't over-run with tourists, but then that is the beauty of France for you! You can get guided tours there, but we opted to just go around the place on our own and we were given a sheet of paper in English informing us of the history of the castle. Fascinating and very beautiful!See more..
4.0Château du Barroux(178 reviews) - Exquisite Location—Fascinating Tour! Tuesday: 10:30 AM - 6:45 PM Castles
If you are anywhere close by, carve out time to take in the craft distillery guided castle tour. By far the highlight of this visit was our animated tour guide Fanni, a member of the family whose vision in 1929 began the restoration efforts to bring this castle back to its former glory. She led us through the most informative tour, so much more then their new project distillery—her generational wine making knowledge; passion for local ancient grains; a little history, a little chemistry and a lot of entertainment, even our non whiskey friends found the tour delightful! You can explore the ramparts, galleries, chapel, and terraces on your own and if you are lucky enough return for a concert!See more..
4.0Château de Sully(177 reviews) - Best chateau courtyard in France. Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Castles
We joined a tour in French 5 minutes late and appreciated the warm welcome. While the guide spoke French we could follow along with English notes that were informative. At the end of each room the guide gave a brief summary in English. She had some nice stories. There were only 8 in the tour and it was not rushed.See more..
4.5Chateau de Chastellux(174 reviews) - A step back in time Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Castles
The Chateau de Chastellux belongs to the same family for a thousand years ! The oldest parts of the castle were built in the 11th century, eventhough the place has been occupied since the Roman era. The forteress has been remodeled, enlarged and embelished at all times, until nowadays. The history of the Chastellux family is inextricably linked to the history of Burgundy, France and also the one of the American Revolutionary War. The park surrounding the castle was drawn by Andre Le Notre, offering variable vantage points of the estate. July & August : The castle is open everyday except Monday. Other months : from Wednesday to Sunday Only on guided tours, three tours a day : 11:15 ; 15:00 ; 16:30. (One tour takes 1:15) The park is open from Tuesday to Sunday for a free visit, from 10:00 am to 18:30 pm.See more..
We loved this - arrived to the entrance and was asked to walk around in the garden for 15 mins which turned out to be delightful. When our guide presented himself, he slowly revealed the rich history of this chateau - and then we discovered he is the current day owner. His knowledge & passion was contagious, in each room he developed the story of the Château’s history & its owners . Highly recommend this for people who like history and the personal touch. This was unique and a standout on the tourists trail - not a touristy experience, very genuine.See more..

4.0Château de Tanlay(130 reviews) - Interesting and worth a visit Tuesday: Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
Château de Tanlay : a renaissance gem in Burgundy dating from the 16th/17th century, built in the heart of the village by the family of the Admiral de Coligny, finished by a relative of Mazarin, it has remained in the same family for three centuries. Remarkable architecture, peaceful walk along the canal with fabulous view of the castle, Renaissance frescoes and trompe-l'oeils, furnished and decorated rooms.See more..
There are no major signs directing you to the chateau, you need to keep your eyes open to see them. It is very attractive from the outside and is only €5 entry so worth the visit. A young man gives an interesting talk on the history without going into too much detail. It's highlight for us was the huge working pigeon coop, complete with rotating ladder and three different breeds of resident birds. It is impressive as the photos show. The working pottery is interesting, being operated by the current owners and the finished products are on sale. However that was the extent of interest for us. The only other rooms that could be visited were in fact sales galleries for different forms of modern art, not our thing and mostly extremely expensive. There is an ancient fireplace in one of those display rooms.See more..

4.0Château de Ray-sur-Saône(33 reviews) - Beautiful grounds to visit every day for free! Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Castles
Located in the heart of Haute-Saone, in the village of Ray-sur-Saone, labelled "Cite de caractere de Bourgogne-France-Comte, the estate of Ray castle is erected on a rocky outcrop at the edge of a plateau overlooking the meandering river some 50 meters below. The whole estate comprising the castle, the park and the farmstead, is entirely protected as being part of the French National Heritage (monument historique). This estate became part of the Department's patrimony thanks to the exceptional donation by Diane de Salverte, last heir to a lineage of 900 years of uninterrupted transmission within the same family. Overlooking the Saone river, which gave its name to the Department "Upper Saone", the castle is an iconic representation of the territory. From May till June, the chateau de Ray is open every saturday, sunday and bank holiday, for guided tour at 2:30 pm and 4:15 pm. Registration is compulsory for individual visitors and groups.See more..

4.5Château et Jardin de Corbelin(13 reviews) - Beautiful gardens around a restored medieval castle Spent 1-2 hours Castles
A very interesting place to visit and walk around. While you can't go inside the main castle, you can visit one of the tower. The present owners restored the castle entirely and created beautiful gardens with several lakes and water features. The gardens won the award of "jardins remarquables" in 2015. It was a huge undertaking because the place had been abandoned for a long time. It started as a medieval castle built during the XV century. At the XVIII century the castle and ground became a iron manufacturing plant that was productive the second half of the XIX century. Very interesting to visit not only because of the beautiful gardens but because you are able to learn how it is possible to completely transform and create a beautiful landscape from nothing.See more..
See more..
