Terezin Private Tour with Pavel Batel - thoroughly researched and well presented.

On the initiative of the newly created Czechoslovak government, in 1947 the National Suffering Memorial was opened on the site of the suffering of tens of thousands; it was later on renamed the Terezin Memorial. The key mission of the Terezin Memorial, the only institution of its kind in the Czech Republic, is to commemorate the victims of the Nazi political and racial persecution during the occupation of the Czech lands in World War II, to promote museum, research and educational activities, and look after the memorial sites connected with the suffering and death of dozens of thousands of victims of violence.

Terezin Private Tour with Pavel Batel - thoroughly researched and well presented.
Pavel Batel is an autodidact who has developed a masterful knowledge of the details of the Nazi occupation of Czeckoslovakia and the use of the Terezin Barracks as a concentration camp. We were collected from our hotel and joined a group of eight in total for the 45 minute drive north from Prague, with several intereting stories on the way there. The day lasts about six or seven hours, with the majority spent in the main barracks town, with a visit to the museum, a secret synagogue and the crematorium. Pavel gave very detailed insisghts into the way the place ran and included vingnettes of interest. We theen went over to the smaller barracks where the stories were much more harrowing. All this was delivered with power, knowledge and a very useful way of leaving some information missing, only to introduce it later at a suitable time which made the 'lecture' far more memorable. This is not a quick visit but worth the time and money spent.

Don't pay the tours, get the bus! Cheaper
Highly recommend a visit from Prague, don't pay silly prices with tour company can easily access bus 17 from Pargue Bus station stand 7 for 102kc, dropped off either at concentration camp or Ghetto. We chose the ghetto and walked the 1km to concentration camp to start the tour. We picked an english guided our for 2 across the whole site for 570kc. We were being charged £51 per person from tour operators. The guided tour on the site is full of knowledge, we had 6 in our group, tour group had over 20 people infront of us. The ghetto is like a village, your ticket has the map to follow each musuem full of information and exhibitions. All the staff were polite, lovely and helpful. Toilets on site all museums and free. We struggled to find the cafe, however found the oub in the Ghetto. Locals very friendly, grateful of the custom couldn't do more for you.
