Such a beautiful lake

This crystal clear lake, some 65 meters deep, was formed by an ancient volcanic eruption.

    Bali's largest lake
The lake is crescent shaped and located in the secondary caldera at the base of Mount Batur. Our driver told us that the lake is held sacred by all Balinese. We were happy with the wonderful views from the lookout and the Lakeview restaurant.. So different to 1989 when a beamo driver took us along some barely discernable track to some hot springs. Over commercialized nowadays.

Stunning surroundings filled with trash on the roadsides, in the streams and in Lake Batur.
it's weird to see children and adults playing in water surrounded by TONS of garbage. absolutely no one ever picks up the trash choosing to let it float and pollute the lake. It would be great if all the people who live on the lake could arrange a trash pickup and beautification day, show some pride in their surroundings and lands, but no, when you ask what they think of the all the trash that flows into the lake they look at you like you are crazy, why would you ever suggest such a strange thing as keeping things nice. it's heartbreaking and the toxins in Lake Batur are rising all the time, fish are dying off more and more...they need a leader so badly, just like the Thai people in Phuket need a leader who will organize garbage collecting from the beaches there.
