Beautiful

This brackish thermal lake in the Athenian Riviera is famous for its mineral waters and healing properties for the skin and muscles. Here, you can dip into waters that remain at a temperature of 71 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, and experience the Garra Rufa fish—a species commonly found at fish spas—nibbling off your dead skin. Located by the coast, the lake also has an underwater cave with 14 tunnels that have still yet to be fully explored. You can find sunbeds for tanning and a restaurant to enjoy your meal. Lake Vouliagmeni is less than an hour away from downtown Athens by driving.

Worth a visit - especially after a long flight!
Went to the lake straight from the airport after an overnight flight. Taxi from the airport cost about €35 and took around half an hour at 8am. When we got to the lake it hadn’t been open for very long so it was very quiet and there were plenty of loungers available - though by lunch time every single one was occupied so definitely get there earlier if you want a seat! Our luggage (two cabin sized bags) fit easily in the free lockers provided. The lake has showers, toilets, changing rooms, food & drink… everything you could possibly want after an overnight flight as you wait for check-in time at your hotel! The location was beautiful for a lazy day in the sun, and the lake was refreshingly cool - but not cold. Our only issue was getting back to the centre of Athens afterwards. We opted to take public transport as it was much cheaper (€1.20 for a 90 minute ticket) but as we hadn’t already purchased a bus ticket we had to walk around 15 minutes to find a kiosk where we could buy them, and then two buses drove right past us because they were too overcrowded. It took us over two hours to get from the lake to Omonia. We will definitely just spend extra and get a taxi next time to save the hassle. So just a word of warning to anyone who might want to take public transport, get your tickets before you go and don’t leave at peak times! We definitely hope to visit the lake again someday. It was one of the best days of our trip to Athens!

Perfect day trip from busy Athens.
What a day! Decided to take a day trip with my fiancé to lake vouliagmeni whilst we were holidaying in Athens and it did not disappoint. Friendly Staff, amazing accommodation and visually breathtaking. Not to mention I ate one of the best salads I have ever had in my life. Drinks are a little bit on the expensive side but for this beautiful natural lake it was worth every penny. If you are staying in Athens for a week or so I would definitely recommend taking the trip, public transport was affordable and easy (although not the quickest) and it means you have all the perks of the beach, without the stubborn sand. Ps. Bring suncream and the nibbling fish in the lake are a delight
