4.5Wild Western Horseback Adventures(219 reviews) - Highly recommend! Sunday: 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sightseeing Tours • Horseback Riding Tours
John, our guide was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. His horses Blue Jean, Crocodile Dundee, and Pepe long-stocking we’re very well behaved horses. My children (13,6) and I have zero experience with horses, which was worry some, but my fears were quickly put to rest with how calm John and his horses were. We did the evening 6:30 time slot for the sunset, which was a good idea as the weather was cool and breezy. Beautiful experience we will remember for a lifetime.See more..

4.5Trail Horse Adventures(94 reviews) - A must for horse lovers! Sunday: Spent 1-2 hours Horseback Riding Tours
Ride through this one-of-a-kind masterpiece of nature in Dead Horse Ranch State Park and learn about the history and mystery that surround us here. On your ride you can experience beauty and wildlife that is signature Arizona. The Verde River makes this a lush oasis in the desert where a wide variety of animals and plants reside that are unique to Sedona and the Verde Valley. At Dead Horse Ranch in Cottonwood Arizona, much of the land we ride in has been set aside as a National Treasure, so it should come as no surprise that some of the most beautiful horseback riding in Arizona can be found here as well.See more..

We walked there from the Grand Canyon Camper Village RV park in Tusayan. We found a walking/bike trail across the roundabout from the park. It was a 30 minute walk under pine trees. We booked an hour ride at Apache stables for about 53 dollars. Best decision! Money well spent. You have to call a day before because they get booked fast. Friendly guide/wrangler, they make sure you are seated properly, they determine the best horse for you( don't know how, I got Skipper, the naughty one who wanted to bite his left and right neighbor, but it was love at first sight) and proceede to guide you into the forest area around the property. Great weather in July at elevation over 7,000 feet. Highly recommended during your stay in Tusayan/ Grand Canyon.See more..

4.5Way Out West Ranch(17 reviews) - Nice ride Spent 1-2 hours Horseback Riding Tours
This was my second time horseback riding and my husbands first. It was a great day, the sun was warm and the ride was beautiful looking at the mountains. The wranglers were very nice and told us the history behind each horse. When I say this ranch was way out of the way I truly mean way way out. You follow a dirt road for 6 miles( in a car it's alittle bumpy). The horses were just wonderful, responded to every command. Even all of the ranches dogs came along for the ride. The only negative thing was that we paid for a 90 minute trail and it was only an hour;-(See more..

We've done trail rides before, but Joe Henson took us out into the high desert of southern Arizona. After he loaded up the horsed into the trailer we headed a few miles south for a real horse experience. Joe showed his extended experience as a rancher and shared some tricks of the trade. The gentle horses made our group of rookies look and feel confident.See more..
5.0Patterson Farms(1 review) - LOVE THIS PLACE! Horseback Riding Tours
March 2018, while staying at Kohl's Ranch, we saw a sign advertising English style horseback riding lessons at Patterson Farms, 4 hrs for $5. Our grandchildren wanted to try it & loved it so much that, during their fall break from school, we took them again. The price had increased to $8 for 4 hrs but, still a great price. The children are first put in a group & given a lesson from 1 of the instructors as to approach a horse, lead a horse, how to brush a horse & clean it's hooves before & after riding. Then the group was taught how to braid/prepare the lead for the horse before being assigned to an instructor (our grandson again got Tory, a 14 yr old instructor who is fantastic & he was thrilled). Unfortunately, Tess wasn't working that day but, the owner/instructor was great, too. After riding their horses to the arena, the kid's are taught how to ride, English style. The kid's take turns in the arena & ALL of the instructors are patient & kind. Our grandchildren ALWAYS want to return & we will during their spring break in March 2019, when the lessons resume. There is a nice seating area for the adults to watch from & for children who are awaiting their turn. There are snacks & drinks available, too (hit chocolate during our visits, due to the cold weather. It's not hard to find although I recommend NOT using online GPS due to the remote area: simply drive into Star Valley, just a couple of miles from Payson, & turn onto the road next to Pete's Place. STAY ON THE ROAD until you go up a bit of a hill, turn left & go down the hill, across the creek & drive to the parking area near the large barn. Helmets are provided if you don't have your own. We tell everyone with children who enjoy riding horses to visit this place. They also work with the mentally challenged kids. There are several dogs in the area, ALL of them very friendly, which all of the kid's love. Definitely worth every penny & second! We can hardly wait for the next visit! See more..
