Interesting exhibits
This museum tells the story of Alaska's air pioneers. There are many interesting exhibits to enjoy. It's not a big museum, but you will find plenty to keep you interested. For example, they had a plane built by a college engineering student so he could fly home on weekends.

Pioneer Air Museum
We are commercial pilots who have visited air museums large and small across the country. The Pioneer Air Museum, which is located in a domed building in Pioneer Park, is both unique and worth visiting. The museum itself is small, having only about a dozen aircraft. However, it contains a number of interesting aviation photographs and items, such as a B-29 engine cowling, an old baggage cart, and the largest collection of skiis I have ever seen. It is also the only air museum we have ever visited that displayed airplane wreckage, which is fitting considering the harsh reality and the risk of flying in Alaska. Other interesting displays include the flying saucer hovercraft, a collection of World War II military aircraft models, and a "pilots chainsaw."

Interesting museum
We have been on bush planes, but didn't know very much about the history. This museum is a collection of a lot of different planes and local stories. We recommend it. Some planes can be climbed on, so this would be fun for kids who love planes.
