   Island Experiences is a new entity run by an old hand in Malekula travel, Edna, who has worked in tourism in Malekula for 12 years. In May we joined two small group tours organised by her, the Man Bush trek across Malekula Island and an ascent of the Ambryn volcano. The Man Bush trek was demanding - 4 days in the jungle across rugged terrain - and the volcano exhilarating, both "once in a lifetime" experiences. The difficulties in organising such adventures cannot be understated - the need to find reliable guides, transport to/from drop/pickup points, accommodation in remote villages, transfers by boat and local flights - in a country where communications are poor. Edna has an extensive network of contacts and our treks ran smoothly, with the few hiccups calmly sorted.
