Painting with Primates was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I was worried it would be something where you’re painting and there’s a lemur in a cage behind you. But no, you are IN the lemur enclosure (with other critters too!), and the animals are so friendly and sweet. The staff & volunteers were very knowledgeable and kind, the animals are very well cared for. I will definitely be coming back! (Shoutout to Amber who took the pics for all of us today!) See more..

  3. 5.0 Florida Bass Conservation Center (1 review)
    - Good Learning Experience
    Saturday: Government Buildings
12/29/21 - The web site still had this facility closed due to COVID. We were close and decided to stop to see if it really was closed. We arrived about 12:15 pm and a pickup truck pulled up and asked us if we wanted to look around and we said yes. There is no charge to visit this facility. Eric was on his way home for the day but took the time to show us around. Trophy fish and information about the sport of Bass fishing is displayed upstairs. There is also an aquarium. This hatchery serves the entire state. The receptionist that is normally in the building had gone out so Eric took us upstairs to show us the displays and then took us out to the tanks to see the fish. There were various different sizes of the fish and different species as well. Who knew that genetically the bass on the east coast of Florida are different from those of the on the West coast. Who knew that they put a fish that loves to eat mosquito larva in the wet ditches along the road as a means of mosquito management. They hand feed the small fish with pellets that the University of Florida developed in association with the center. The fish have to be taught to eat the pellets which is not normal for them. Learned a great deal from the visit. There are I believe two ponds on site that you can actually even fish in. Great opportunity to spend sometime looking at and learning about the conservation effort. See more..

  6. 4.0 Webster Westside Flea Market (221 reviews)
    - Good Day Trip
    Saturday: Flea & Street Markets
    Webster Westside Flea Market image
We have been going to the whole flea market for years and we always seem to go home with something. Lots of good deals on fruit and vegetables on the eastside. It can take hours to see everything so go early because around lunch time some of the vendors start packing up. There aren't as many vendors as there used to be and there is a lot more to choose from during snowbird season. Parking is cheap or free if you know where to park. Wear some good walking shoes. And remember it is only open on Mondays even if a holiday falls on a Monday (except maybe Christmas). t See more..
  7. 4.0 Richloam Fire Tower Trailhead (4 reviews)
    - Hiking Richloam South
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Forests
    Richloam Fire Tower Trailhead image
This is by far THE BEST trailhead I've ever experienced. There are no restrooms, no picnic tables, no amenities except one spigot with potable water. There is, however, a fire tower! Not just a fire tower.. One that you can actually climb! At your own risk, of course, but unlocked, sturdy, and all the way to the cabin on top. Spectacular views in every direction. Happy! Happy! Happy! This is also the trailhead to several different loop trails. I chose to hike Richloam South with my puppy Buc on a beautiful winter morning. This loop is 12.5 miles and traverses some pretty amazing Florida terrain. Lots of wildlife, mostly birds. It's still hunting season and everything furry is hiding. Wonderful day hiking in the Withlacoochee State Forest and all for FREE. Highly recommended! See more..
