Definitely worth the drive from north of DC. Drove down from Maryland on a Friday afternoon to try some new wineries. Stopped in a Molon Lave and was most impressed with not only the wines, but the winery and definitely the staff. Their selection was so good that my wife decided to join their wine club – which completely shocked me. We walked out this time with 6 bottles – their Ariadne port and Rose as gifts, and the Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Diathesi white port and Chardonnay. All were very enjoyable – though I personally wasn’t a fan of the Katie’s Charm and the Greek - Kokineli. Stewart was our server and was most cordial and knowledgeable. I will definitely be going back here, and next time be bringing several friends along with me. Built in 1808, the front portion of the jail originally contained four cells, each of which was approved to house 40 prisoners. In 1823, after only 15 years of use, the 1808 jail was deemed insufficient and a new stone jail was built just to the rear of the older structure. The 1808 jail was then converted into a house for the jailor with a kitchen made of the leftover stones from the "New Jail" added in 1823. The rear structure contains original cells as well as an exercise yard, which was also used as a hanging yard. Hangings took place in the yard until 1896. This is one of the most perfectly preserved old jails in the Commonwealth, and was operated as a jail until 1966. Today, the Old Jail is a history museum focusing on the histories of the Town of Warrenton, Fauquier County, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The artifacts that make up the museum's exhibitions have all been donated by generous local citizens. See more..

This the 4th trip to this Greek Family owned winery for me and my daughter, but first for son and friends. Never disappointed. We were greeted with a smiling sommelier who was knowledgeable about the wines and made tasting fun. We love it when the owner, Katie is present but we had just missed her! We love their Chardonnay, but the one we were used to was sold out! Never fear, a new one was born and it's even better, if that's possible! My faves: Chardonnay, Chambourcin and Cab Sauvignon. They are pricier than other wineries, but so worth it. Also they give a military discount! Thw winery is on beautiful land and the inside is warm, inviting and able to accommodate groups. There are a lot of wineries with rolling hills and vineyards to overlook. This is not one of them. It is very close to the awesome Old Bust Head brewery, the small, but interesting Cold War Museum and a small cafe. The names of the wines all point toward the history of the area, in a fun way. I don’t think many of the wines are their own, and when we visited, there were no tastings because of COVID, but the ones I tried were very good. See more..

Being that we (group of 6 of us) just left Mediterranean ... The place was empty. Service was OK. The cost compared to Mediterranean was extremely high (when we were there) and then the wines .. Well like any place you some of this and some of that .. Well for us, the wine was just "OK".. I am sure there are some whom felt it was great. BUT that is what is so great about wine. The highlight of the visit (also sad part on the business) was that there was an older gentleman whom came in behind us. He had a few tastings then just left... Had our daughters 4th birthday party this past Sat. afternoon here with about 12 kids and 17 adults. Simply wonderful! Staff was attentive to all o our needs before we even knew what they were. Food was ok but it's pizza popcorn and soda at a Skate Rink not Filet or Lobster Thermador right??? A fantastic value for the price!! The young man at the ticket desk of the Fauquier Old Jail Museum pointed out the “California House” and gave us a brief history of it. He said the house was the home of William “Extra Billy” Smith who was a lawyer practicing law in Virginia. “Extra Billy” had a contract to carry mail and passengers back and forth from Washington, DC to Warrenton, VA. He would charge the government extra on some of his runs and charge passengers extra for carrying packages with them. He moved to California to practice law with his son and became rich during the Gold Rush by selling the tools needed by prospectors panning for gold. Now you know why Smith was called “Extra Billy”.
