Called in here a for a bite and beers after doing the white pass train ride. Had to wait a short while for a table as the place was very busy. What a fun place. Out waitress was excellent, friendly and efficient. Food was good, beer was tasty and the reindeer fart cocktails went down well. Every 30 minutes they offer a tour of the old brothel museum for an additional fee. Didn’t do this so can’t comment. Small gift shop in here as well. See more..

  7. 4.0 Gold Rush Cemetery (346 reviews)
    - Step back in time in time
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
    Gold Rush Cemetery image
Stepping back in time, this cemetery is not maintained and therefore it is more interesting. You can read most of the head stones but there is also a board with some of the history of some of the graves in the parking area. We were surprised by the number of woman and children thinking it would be mostly all men. Ages were varied but som very young, if you visit take time to read the board I read it after our visit to the cemetery but it may have been more useful reading it first. It is also the gateway to a wonderful waterfall. Well worth a visit. See more..
  8. 4.5 Lower Reid Falls (253 reviews)
    - Reid Falls needs a better promoter
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Lower Reid Falls image
My wife and I visited Skagway on May 25, 2022. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid 60s. We walked from downtown toward Reid Falls and the cemetery over a 2 mile walk in direct sunlight. By the time we reached our destination, we were a little dusty and hot. We entered the cool woods and took the trail to the falls. In a couple of minutes our walk in the sun was forgotten. This waterfall is awesome. It is easily over 100 feet from top to bottom and is a series of falls. You can get right next to it for a great photo. Reid Falls should be on your must do list for Skagway, just below the train ride to White Pass Summit and The Historic Park. The cemetery pales in comparison to Reid Falls. And if you are not energetic enough to walk 5 miles round trip, you can ride a city bus out and back from Downtown Skagway. See more..

  10. 4.5 Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail (171 reviews)
    - Not for the Faint of Heart
    Hiking Trails
Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail image
Short but straight up the hill at times, I had to pause for a minute or two to catch my breath and I think I"m in pretty good shape for a 55 y/o. Provides scenic views of Skagway and the Cruise Ships, but mostly a walk in the woods, until you get to the glistening Lower Dewy lake. Beautiful. Had no intentions (or time) to keep going to Upper Dewey lake, but I can only imagine the views from there must have been real good and worth the struggle to climb. Not a hike for young kids, unless you don't mind piggy backing them at times. See more..

  12. 4.0 Captain William Moore Cabin (124 reviews)
    - Part of Skagway History
    Historic Sites
    Captain William Moore Cabin image
I visited the Moore Cabin / Homestead Museum during my walking tour of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Skagway on the Skagway port day of my Alaska cruise in June. There was no guided tour or park ranger presentation. So, my self-tour of the museum was pretty short, but I still appreciated learning about the history of the place from the exhibits. Interesting to learn that Skagway was founded by Captain William Moore, who set up residence and business there instead of going on the gold rush. The NPS has diligently restored and maintained the old cabin and the residence into a historical museum complex. It is one of the farther units from the Visitor Center of the Historical Park, but still an easy walk. See more..
  13. 4.5 Yakutania Point (95 reviews)
    - Beautiful hike to get a little way away from town
    Hiking Trails
    Yakutania Point image
We were in town with a cruise ship and did a morning excursion but still had some time afterward before we left. We filled it with this beautiful hike out to Yakutania Point. It was fairly easy and not too hilly, with some forest views along the way and a beautiful rocky beach at the end. It took us less than an hour to walk out, enjoy the views, soak up the sun, and take a few pictures, and then head back across the bridge to town. From there it was 15 or 20 minutes across town back to where our ship was docked. Definitely worth a short hike to get some Alaskan scenery if you're in Skagway! See more..

    Upper Dewey Lake image
Crazy experience, did it solo when i was 15 (my grandma stayed in skagway). Incredible scenery and made some friends along the way. I was not prepared (no trekking shoes or poles), and it took around 6 hours. Views at the top are incredible, other than the lake there is a big patch of red/orange/brown grass that is straight out of a painting. Saw one black bear and what looked like wolves footprints. Review is from August 2014!! See more..

    Skagway Centenial Statue image
Ok….I love statues that we can have fun with. The population movement towards the gold fields of Alaska is quite serious. Most of the miners either lost everything or everything and their lives. Fun for pics, but really should be viewed for more serious content See more..
  21. 4.5 Pitchfork Falls (40 reviews)
    - Natures beauty and a man made snake
    Waterfalls
    Pitchfork Falls image
We didn't see this water fall close up. On our way to Yukon Suspension Bridge, we made a stop to see this beauty on the opposite side of the Klondike Highway. From afar I can see it more complete and much better. The water flowing from Goat Lake to Skagway River, the water falls do look like a pitchfork. Not too far from the falls, I also saw a man made snake, (a pipeline visible from across the valley, where we were) I asked our guide and driver, he said that is a hydroelectric project, providing electricity to the community of Skagway. That is an unique site to see. Happy Travelling! See more..

  24. 4.0 Mollie Walsh Park (18 reviews)
    - Great spot to take the kids with a little history for the Adults
    Parks
    Mollie Walsh Park image
Just a short walk from the cruise port and to the right there we found this amazing play ground that the kids loved! There was also public washrooms right beside it. It is named after Mollie Walsh. Mollie was a resourceful and independent young woman with a wanderlust and a love of frontiers. In 1890, when she was 18, she left home for Montana. When she heard about they struck gold in the Klondike she packed her bags and headed to Skagway. She became popular both as a waitress. This courageous Lady ran a grub tent near Log Cabin during the Gold Rush of 1897-1898. She fed and lodged the wildest gold-crazed men. See more..
  25. 4.0 Pullen Creek Stream Walk (18 reviews)
    - Informative and leisurely trail
Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
    Pullen Creek Stream Walk image
I came to know of the Pullen Creek Stream Walk in Skagway while waiting to get on the White Pass Summit Train ride at the train station near the ship docking area. Since I had quite some time before boarding the train, I decided to take a walk on the trail. My visit was the first week of June, much before the salmon started swimming. So, I did not see any salmon in the creek waters. There are frequent informative and colorful plaques along the walk providing local wildlife information. The walk follows Pullen Creek (sometimes called Dewey Creek) and is quite peaceful. There are a few road crossings along which require some caution. I certainly recommend this walk as it is very flat and can be leisurely. See more..

    Alaska Art Colony image
Hidden to the side but very well worth seeking out! The guy who was working there was very very nice. We bought some paintings that others did but were smaller and fun. It would be cool if this place was on cruise excursions to stop in as a group and do the paintings!!! Wish I had the time to paint something there. I truly wish them the best of luck because they are a great place!!! See more..

There is a sand box with artifacts to find by sifting sand along with information about gold panning, animal pelts and a skull along with information about trappers, displays of provisions for the gold rush along with toys of the time period. Interesting photos and commentary at several stations on iPads kept the adults and teens interested.
