Trail through the St. Mary Lake and St. Mary Glacier was very colorful and not very easy. It was worth to hike there, to be able to get to the great open space near the peaks. The temperature in the end of September was about 45 F. There was very strong wind and beautiful sunny day. The views were unbelievable. I was hoping to see more wild life(except the bears or mountain lion :) ). Finally I saw some birds and one marmot, sitting on the rock and "checking the hikers". Picnic at the top hidden behind the bush was great. The food has tasted better and even water was good too. You can hike in many directions there. I wish to have more time. It looks like I will be returning back to this place. There is still a lot of things to see. I recommend this place. RomanP See more..

Roosevelt National Park offers many and varied opportunities for recreation. You can do most anything, from hunting to nordic skiing. For winter activities, a choice location is, despite its unpropitious name, Deadman Road near Redfeather Lakes. See more..
  3. 4.5 Crater Lakes Trail, James Peak Wilderness (2 reviews)

Travel about 7 miles on The East Portal Inlet/Tolland Rd. dirt road through a small town of Tolland to see some nice mountain views as you approach the east side of the Moffett Tunnel. If you stick around long enough, you’ll see a few trains pass by and if you’re lucky, an Amtrak headed to Winter Park through the tunnel. The trail head for the Crater Lakes hike in the James Peak wilderness is close by for a nice day hike up to two beautiful high Mountain Lakes. Bring your backpack with a few snacks and some water, and take advantage of this beautiful hike especially in the fall when the aspen trees are changing colors. You won’t want to miss it! See more..
