  5. 5.0 Second Impression Antique Mall (1 review)
    - Big, eclectic, easy to find.
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Antique Shops
Mitchell, South Dakota's "claim to fame" is the Corn Palace. We saw that a previous year, and it was fun to visit. But, having "been there, done that," this time we got off the freeway to see an antique mall in Mitchell. We knew of its existence because there were a number of signs along the freeway featuring it, and one just before the exit to Mitchell. It's easy to find. Just follow the signs to the Corn Palace, and one block away, is a building with great big letters spelling it out: "Antique Mall." Hard to miss. As the name implies, it is expansive, with all the twists and turns one comes to expect at antique malls. The selection is eclectic, but quite varied. If you enjoy antique stores, this place shouldn't disappoint you. Pricing was reasonable in most cases too. We picked up a carnival glass pitcher and glasses for about $35 for the pitcher and $15 per glass, which is pretty much the going rate for such items. Got the time? Like antique stores? Worth a look. George and Eleanor McGovern Library image
How could America not elect this man President. Then again, how could in 2016... He was so giving and caring about others. I was 12 years old when he ran for president. I was living in Miami Beach and that's where the Democratic convention was that year. All the candidates had offices that I visited. I remember some of the candidates like Scoop Jackson, George Wallace, Hubert Humphrey, and most of all Shirley Chisholm. I collected all the bumper stickers and buttons for the candidates that year. This guy was special though. I think people thought he was going to bring the country back to the Kennedy years. I spent a good 45 minutes in this small well curated museum and learned a lot about George McGovern. I didn't know about his commitment to ending world hunger - that he teamed up with Senator Bob Dole on a worldwide campaign to feed the poor. Man I wish we had leaders like that now. This was a great catch! See more..

What a well-preserved, historical building this is! We were in town for a family event and stopped by. The folks are very helpful and tenacious in their efforts to preserve the history of the families in the Mitchell/Southeastern SDk area. We loved the Oscar Howe dome and paintings. This visit helped me with future genealogy I am working on. Thank you to all who are involved here! See more..
  11. 4.5 Big Dummy''s Bar (4 reviews)
    - Great place for a beer and a story
    Bars & Clubs
I stopped in on the way back to Minneapolis from Sturgis and took a seat at the bar. I drank my beer listening to the various conversations going on and decided to get a T-shirt because the name was funny and I'm a big guy so Big Dummy's fits once in a while. A guy interjects and starts talking about get this guy one of the new shirts, one of the good ones from the back. We start talking and it turns out he was the owner of the place and very familiar the various biker groups and his opinions of them. Apparently he was not only a former kickboxer he was also a former pro wrestler. It was fun to shoot the shoot about the 90's wrestlers and he knew or wrestled with many of them and he had some pretty cool stories. He throws a once a year big time wrestling match out back called Dummerslam. I don't recall his name but I recall having a few beer, endless great stories and a heckuva a good time. I don't know what else you want out of a bar. See more..
