  1. 5.0 Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site (433 reviews)
    - Extraordinary recreation of a historic trading post
    Historic Sites
Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site image
This historic site is about an hour from I-25 and if you enjoy old west history you'll really appreciate this old fort. This is actually a trading post not a military fort and they rebuilt it based on the foundation and surviving descriptions. The staff dress in period clothes and relate the history of the trading post. They've put in a lot of effort to make the place look period and you can freely wander around it. They have an 18 minute video to give you the history of the fort. See more..

    Picketwire Canyonlands image
What a wonderful experience today. My husband and I did the guided auto tour through Picketwire Canyon. Lyn was our guide and was very informative at the many stops we made. The dinosaur tracks were absolutely amazing and walking across the river to see even more tracks was exciting. Take plenty of water and food and don't expect to have phone service. Be sure to read the requirements for this drive at their website. See more..

This is one place I go to probably weekly because I can usually find what I am looking for, or leave with something I didn't plan on buying! They have quality used clothing, shoes, dishes, books, music. AND they have a section of the store that is totally new items handmade or produced by villages in other parts of the world to share with us in La Junta. Check it out regularly. You won't be disappointed. See more..

    Koshare Indian Museum image
There is a wonderful collection of Indian artifacts including instruments, paintings, and especially clothing. My information said that Kashare was open until 5:00 P.M., but really it is only 4:00 P.M. at the present time. Admittance is $3, I believe, and well worth the visit. See more..

  11. 3.5 Fox Theatre (8 reviews)
    - Cheap date night!
    Spent 2-3 hours Movie Theaters
We rarely go to the movies, but are in LaJunta for a couple months and decided to go for a date night. Free parking downtown is nice. On Mondays, there are $1 small popcorn and $1 small soda. Only a handful of people in the movie we saw. Only bad thing, was the air conditioner was wayyyyyy too cold! Friendly service. Would definitely return! See more..
  12. 3.0 Picketwire Players Community Theater (1 review)
    - Great venue but no amplification so you can't hear the performers
    Spent 1-2 hours Theaters
The actors really put a lot of work into their performances, but the production is marred by not having or using a microphone system. Sitting any further back than the 7th row guarantees you won't be able to understand what the actors are saying. It's also sad to hear the straining actors' voices as they try their best to project. I hope this changes in the near future. See more..
