- 4.5 The Exchange Hotel Civil War medical Museum (189 reviews)
-Great family historical stop!
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
Welcome to the Exchange Hotel Civil War Medical Museum. Before the Civil War, the Exchange Hotel with its high ceiling parlors and grand veranda welcomed passengers from the two rail lines: the Virginia Central Railroad and the Orange & Alexandria Railroad. Soon after the completion of the hotel, the Civil War began. Troops, supplies, and wounded were transported on these railroads to Gordonsville. The Exchange Hotel became the Gordonsville Receiving Hospital which provided care for 70,000 soldiers, both Confederate and Union. In the reconstruction period, this hospital served the newly freed slaves as a Freedman's Bureau Hospital. As the United States healed and the railroads boomed, this graceful building returned to its role of hotel. Now fully restored, the hotel is a museum dedicated to the Civil War era. See more..
- 4.5 Honah Lee Vineyard (82 reviews)
-Wonderful experience
Thursday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Bars & Clubs
We had a great time at the vineyard. The wines and tasting were very nice. They did a great job with the social distancing. They are plenty of separate areas in a beautifully landscaped property. The tastings are done in the patio. Some people even brought their own tables and chairs. The owners and bartender were very friendly and everyone was having a great experience. They had an assortment of snacks, cheese and wraps. Even sold cookies, brownies honey and jams. Great value $8.00 gets you six tastings and a complimentary glass. They also had awesome wine slushys! - 4.5 Oakland Heights Farm (39 reviews)
-Great trail ride
Horseback Riding Tours
A friend and I went on a 1 hour trail ride at Oakland Heights Farm which is about a 40-minute drive outside of Charlottesville. The trail guides were kind and patient (for very beginner level questions), the horses were calm and friendly, and the trail path up and down the mountainside was lovely. You can tell the staff really love the horses they care for and want to share an enjoyable experience with horse riding newbies. I recommend this place to others. See more..
