Firstly, hats of to Robert from the pro shop and Cody from the restaurant. Both of these guys were beyond accommodating and genuinely kind, which made a good experience great. Secondly, the course is very well kept and great for all skill levels. The best part is before and after every swing looking at Scott’s Bluff. See more..

    - Great place
    Monday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 AM Bars & Clubs
My friends and I were in Gering for a hunting trip and needed somewhere good for dinner. The hotel suggested The Union Bar. We tried it and the food was awesome. Everything we ate was delicious and the atmosphere was fun too. We ended up eating there every night of our trip and it was great all three nights. My friends tried some of their specialty mixed drinks and said they were awesome too. I would highly recommend this place if you are in Gering. See more..

Oregon Trail Park is the home of the "Western Nebraska Pioneer" baseball team. College students from all across the country come together for a summer of baseball. They play under the MLB rules for baseball and they are using wood bats for the experience. The team plays 64 games associated with the 8 teams in the "Expedition League" The 8 teams represent 4 states, North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. The level of play is every bit as exciting a a major league game. So, if in the area and want a fun family evening. Check out a ball game. It's only $7 for general admission. See more..
  6. 4.5 Scotts Bluff National Monument (627 reviews)
    - Worth the short drive.
Monday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours National Parks
    Scotts Bluff National Monument image
I definitely recommend visiting here if you're near. The short drive from I80 or from the routes north to the Black Hills are well worth it, and the park itself is beautiful and easy to enjoy. It's also free. You can see/do a lot in a relatively short amount of time. Super nice visitor center with great museum and very nice staff. The drive to the top on the narrow road provides ever changing views of the surrounding landscapes. At the top, there is a parking area with nice views and two short trails if you wish to stretch your legs: South View (1/8 mile), North View (1/2 mile). Both trails are paved with great views and info exhibits. You can also take the trail down to the visitor center from here (1.6 miles). Views from the top are spectacular. Look down on the town of Gering and follow in your mind the old Oregon Trail all the way to Chimney Rock over 20 miles away. We were here late in the day so the colors were awesome. See more..
  7. 4.5 Legacy of the Plains Museum (89 reviews)

Legacy of the Plains Museum is a destination for people interested in stories of human and agricultural history in the North Platte Valley and High Plains. Our new state-of-the-art, interactive exhibits focus on the archeology of Native Americans and Westward Expansion, the lives of pioneering settlers, this establishment of irrigation, the development of rural communities, the diversity of cultures on the High Plains, and the innovative technologies and cultural practices of raising animals and crops in a semi-arid environment. 8. 4.5 South Overlook (22 reviews)
    - Short, Easy Walk to Breath-taking View
Spent 1-2 hours Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
    South Overlook image
This trail is located inside the boundaries of Scotts Bluff National Monument so an entrance fee is required ($3/person or NPS pass). The trailhead is at a large parking area on top of the bluff. There are three ways to reach it: drive your vehicle up Summit Rd. (1.6 miles from the Visitor Center), hike up the Saddle Rock Trail (1.6 Miles from the Visitor Center), or ride the shuttle bus (seasonal). The trail is paved and only .4 mile long - a sidewalk, really. The grade is not very steep and we were able to take a wheelchair to the viewpoint that overlooks the Visitor Center, Mitchell Pass, and the Oregon Trail. There isn't any shade so be prepared for sun exposure. See more..

  10. 4.5 Saddle Rock Trail (17 reviews)
    - Great Hike - Especially Downhill
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Saddle Rock Trail image
We hiked the Saddle Rock Trail in late August in the morning. Just because the trailhead sign for Saddle Rock Trail is at the bottom of the bluff, it doesn't mean you have to start here. Park Service operates a free shuttle called the Summit Shuttle, where you can pick up at the Visitor's Center. We took the shuttle to the top, listening as our driver Doug, a volunteer, entertained and informed us with stories, facts and legends of the area. Once at the top, we took the Saddle Rock Trail back down to the Visitor's Center, getting a close up look and marveling at the geologic formations along the way. We were also treated to some beautiful views of the valley below during our hike. The trail is paved and is a little over 1-1/2 miles. This is a great hike - downhill. See more..
  11. 4.5 Oregon Trail Lounge (2 reviews)
    - Now Goonies Bar and Grill
Spent 2-3 hours Bars & Clubs
    Oregon Trail Lounge image
The OT bar has sold and is now Goonies. They have already changed their sign. The Goonies in Terrytown Nebraska has moved to Gering Nebraska. They have the best burgers in town. Their Goonie Burger is the best, it is spicy I will warn you. It has Jalapenos and sweet chili sauce, it is so incredibly good! It was voted #1 burger in Nebraska, and I can see why. I uploaded a pic for you of my take out Goonie burger :^D See more..

  13. 3.5 Robidoux Trading Post (9 reviews)
    - A Sidebar to Pioneer History
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Robidoux Trading Post image
This site, located at Robideux Pass, lies on the initial trail established by the early fur traders and Oregon Trail pioneers. This pass was the forerunner of Mitchell Pass at Scott's Bluff National Monument. Historical markers indicate the original site, but the current Robideux Trading Post is a replica. It is located some distance south of Scott's Bluff National Monument, accessed primarily through miles of dirt/gravel roads. A map to this attraction is available at the front desk of Scott's Bluff National Monument. The best way to access this site with very little travel on gravel road is to proceed south from Gering on Hwy 7, turning West on Carter Canyon Rd. From the point the pavement ends on Carter Canyon Road, it is exactly two miles to the building. Check with the Park Service about events or reenactments that might open the building to the public.
