  6. 4.5 Cinema Arts Theatre (164 reviews)
    - Cinema Arts- An independent Movie House
Thursday: 9:30 AM - 11:00 PM Movie Theaters
    Cinema Arts Theatre image
Not a megaplex, it’s a movie house. The seats are roomy and comfortable since the renovation. They’ve expanded food and beverage options to keep up with the large chain theaters, but that’s not why I go. It’s the theater that shows the festival films along with the big blockbusters. Small budget films with great story lines, brilliant actors and directors have screen time here. It’s locally owned and operated. The people there are not only part of the community but are heavily invested in it. Fairfax City has been mostly swallowed up by large corporate stores with no loyalty to their neighborhoods or customers. Cinema Arts Theater and it’s sister University Mall Theater are value for your dollar, often inspiring for your spirit and part of the FFX legacy. See more..

  12. 4.5 Daniels Run Park (14 reviews)
    - EXCELLENT Walking trails - Best park in the area - Serene environment
    Parks
    Daniels Run Park image
What a great surprise and find this was for a weekend walk. Lots of parking available at the bottom of Estel Road (head in towards the park). The trails are well maintained, consistent enough for safe jogging, the trees enormous (some looked to be over 100' tall) and the serenity remarkable in a suburban park. There were well constructed, solid bridges over the creek that runs through the park and a network of trails that you can easily spend a few hours exploring. There were even coyote warning signs throughout the park, testimony to its isolation - we didn't see any critters, though. This will be a regular for us in the future. See more..
  13. 4.5 City of Fairfax Regional Library - Virginia Room - Genealogy Research (12 reviews)
    - Research facility is great for Genealogists
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Libraries
As a Genealogist this location is one of the best research locations outside of the History Center in Salt Lake Center Utah. I found one of the most complete locations for Virginia History inside a branch library. It is like a library within a library. The desk clerk was most helpful and everyone I asked for help was very friendly. I would certainly go back there again in the future. See more..

  18. 4.5 The Hub Theatre (3 reviews)
    - A Good Thing in a Small Package
    Spent 1-2 hours Theaters
I’ve been so busy going to performances that I haven’t had time to write reviews; it’s time for catching up. Yesterday afternoon, two friends, my husband, and I went to the Hub Theatre in Fairfax, Virginia to see The Late Wedding. This is the third show I have attended at this intimate theatre that continues to produce thought-provoking and entertaining plays. The Hub Theatre shows us that good things indeed can come in small packages, as there is seating for only about 50 people. The three productions I’ve seen there have had consistently excellent direction, acting, and very clever set designs to provide ambiance. Redder Blood, by Helen Murray Pafumi, was the first I saw. My friends and I were astounded by the script, heartfelt acting, and keen direction. In December, we went to see The Magi, also by playwright Pafumi, with music and lyrics by Eli Pafumi. I have always loved the O. Henry story, The Gift of the Magi, and the Hub’s contemporary take with two traveling musicians, was beautifully acted and musically creative. The current production, The Late Wedding, portrays the marriage rituals of a variety of couples. The ensemble of six are led by the narrator through a kaleidoscope of face-paced scenes. The script by Christopher Chen introduces 23 characters, 3-5 per actor, to portray intriguing, quirky personalities, vocally and physically. I was thrilled to see one of my favorite actors from Happenstance Theatre, Gwen Grastorf, singing, playing instruments, and cavorting in and out of characters. Do treat yourself to a challenging performance of fun and reflection at the Hub Theatre – either this production or a future play. Your soul will thank you. See more..

  22. 4.0 Chubby Squirrel Brewing (12 reviews)
    - Great beer, great people, great merchandise, great atmosphere
    Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
    Chubby Squirrel Brewing image
Warning, this is not your new style brewery that has every kind of beer for people that don't drink beer. The Chubster makes beer for beer drinkers. You wouldn't find 42 fruity beers and 13 flavored seltzers here. The good news, is if you like beer, this is the place for good beer with a number of varities (not only IPAs). While you're there grab some food (I recommend the pretzel which is fantastic) and some really cute Chubby Squirrel merchandise (love that logo!). See more..

  25. 4.0 Regal Cinema (1 review)
    - Regal in Fairfax with recliners
    Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
Located in the heart of Fairfax near the shopping mall and restaurants, the theater serves the movie loving public in the community. The strip mall looks a bit old, it cannot compete with new glitzy places, but the theater seats are reclining and comfortable. On a Sunday evening, the place looked almost deserted. However, there are quite a few restaurants nearby. A good bet is to park on the 3rd floor of the adjacent parking structure that would be the shortest walk to the entrance. They do not have an escalator or elevator at front to go there. See more..
  26. 3.5 Historic Ford Building (2 reviews)
    - Neat, little house with lots of local history
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites
There are interesting stories in this single building converted into offices. The Women's Club of Fairfax (a local group dedicated to community service) organizes the exhibit and tells the story of the famous resident at this house which was built circa 1835. Antonia Ford was a female spy for Confederate Army during the Civil War. Most of the exhibit consist of photos and stories on the walls. Be sure a volunteer guide is available to tell you the intriguing story of Antonia and her love affair with a Union officer, Major Joseph Willard (co-owner of the legendary Willard Hotel in Washington, DC). The second floor displays interesting collection of music sheets and lyrics from the Civil War era as well as the annual ornaments created by the Women's Club of Fairfax. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 as part of the City of Fairfax Historic District. See more..
