  1. 5.0 Columbia Hall (1 review)
    - A taste of the old country.
    Historic Sites
    Columbia Hall image
Columbia Hall is at the center of the little town of Dannebrog, a quaint little town we discovered in our travels in the middle of Nebraska with a Danish heritage. Columbia Hall serves as a museum, archives, and meeting place for the town, and can be visited by appointment. It's also a great place to begin a short walking tour that goes down South Mill Street ending four blocks away at the cemetery. After checking out the historic marker in front of Columbia Hall, walk across the square and check out the murals and signage on the walls at (and behind) Kerry's grocery. Pretty cool. Next, stop in at the Danish Baker. Don't expect real Danish food there unless it's Christmas or festival time, but they have excellent food and great sourdough bread. As you continue down the street, check out the Dannebrog Fire and Rescue station with the neat little veranda in the front. Then there's the Lutheran Church, and finally at the end, a quiet little cemetery that really reveals the town's Danish heritage. Just look at the names on all the markers. Since my family is Danish, this place just seemed to capture my heart. And I love all the Danish flags (the Dannebrogs). See more..
  2. 5.0 Dannebrog Country Club (1 review)
    - Most interesting GOLF ever!!
    Spent 1-2 hours Golf Courses
I was in the area of Grand Island, NE and had heard of this golf course in Dannebrog, NE. It is a 9 hole course located just east of Dannebrog, about 20 miles NW of Grand Island, NE. What fun. This course is cut into the center of a pasture. The holes are inside barb wire fences to keep the livestock from ruining the SAND greens. One of the holes in INSIDE A LARGE STOCK TANK! You have to climb a ladder to get in to putt on the green. The fairways had been recently mowed and were remarkedly nice.... The ROUGH, it truly ROUGH. If you hit the ball into the ROUGH, just count on it as lost. The native grass on the ROUGH was 3 feet tall in places. This course also has small laterals of water running through it. Bring old golf balls and plenty of them! The cost is CHEAP. $4 per person for all day! No water or anything else is available. This was a FUN activity. The weather when we were there was nice. Wildlife tracks on the greens add to the uniqueness of this Country Club. Perhaps I should have said "Country Club?" It is certainly worth a stop and taking the time to at least look around. Be surprised by this unbelievably well stocked selection of Indian arts and crafts. What a treasure place for everyone even if you aren't into Indian Art. The town is an added feature as is the Danish Baker near by. This is a win / win afternoon for everyone. Eye opening for the kids. See more..
