  7. 4.5 Phantom Canyon Road (249 reviews)
    - Interesting drive!
    Scenic Drives
    Phantom Canyon Road image
Really cool drive thru the canyon. It was a beautiful day to make this drive. Be aware some areas are quite bumpy. You don't necessarily need a 4wd to tackle this road but would recommend higher clearance due to rocks and washboards. Even though the canyon drive is about 20-ish miles long, allow plenty of time for slow going thru narrow roads and blind curves. We combined it with a drive thru Victor then on to Cripple Creek and learned about Gold mining which was fun. See more..

Outlaw and Lawmen Jail Museum image
Saw some fun stuff offered in a town called Cripple Creek, so we ventured out there. Cute little town. We love jail and prison tours, so it was cool that we stumbled on this jail museum. Great small jail with a lot of town and area history. Especially after visiting the Canon Prison museum, it extended the stories. This jail was also featured on Ghost Adventures, so it was neat to see the posters and pictures on that which we looked up. So yes, it is haunted. Lovely woman working the desk that gives a nice overview. Good size gift shop. Spent about 45 minutes strolling around this smaller jail that offers 2 floors for display. See more..

    Cripple Creek District Museum image
This is a fabulous museum, consisting of the Midland Terminal Railway Depot, the Colorado Trading and Transfer, the Assay Office, as well as (2) Miner's Cabins. You can really take as long as you want to your all the buildings and the grounds, which are all grouped together within about a one square block area. Wife and I just loved the place. It was a bit on the quiet side, so we felt like we weren't rushed, and employees explained things as we went along. For instance, I didn't know prior who Ralph Carr was, and how important he was to the area (Cripple Creek) and it's development. Yep, there are restrooms on site, and the were even clean! I know you get tired or hearing me speak of restrooms in my reviews, but travelers find this an important issue! See more..

    - Great little theater
    Theaters
    Gold Bar Theater image
We have been to two shows at the Gold Bar Room Theater. We had a great experience at both shows. Our favorite show was a couple of years ago when they brought in The Fab Four which is a Beatles review. Most recently, we saw a country singer with his band who was also very good. The theater is small enough that there is banter between the patrons and the performers. The venue is intimate in the best of ways. We will be watching the for the 2015 calendar to pick the performances that appeal the most to us. We cannot wait to go back to the Gold Bar Room Theater! See more..

  22. 4.0 Midnight Rose Casino (12 reviews)
    - Loose Slots
    Spent < 1 hour Casinos
    Midnight Rose Casino image
Husband and I visited the Midnight Rose Casino 9/13-9/15/2017. We frequent casinos on the east coast and Vegas. Over the years slot machines have gotten tighter. Midnight Rose was a pleasant surprise. I hit quite a few small jackpots. Of course like most slots, if played long enough, they will eventually take it all back. But, being able to hit the occasional jackpot, kept me playing much longer. We were in Cripple Creek for about 3 days and I spent most of my time at the slots in the Midnight Rose. The folks here are friendly, as we found to be true in most of Cripple Creek. Already making plans for returning next year. See more..

  24. 4.0 Little Grouse Mountain Trailhead (1 review)
    - Short hike. Great view.
    Hiking Trails
    Little Grouse Mountain Trailhead image
There is a small mining display at the trailhead with some old mining equipment. The trail is rather steep, given its length (1 mile, round trip), but offers great views of the Sangre de Cristos and also of the leach facilities at the nearby mine. Historic mining artifacts have been relocated to the top of this trail and benches positioned throughout. Good for a quick jaunt if you want to stretch your legs. Located on Highway 67 between Cripple Creek and Victor. See more..
  25. 3.5 Wildwood Casino (195 reviews)
    - Not Great Food
    Casinos
    Wildwood Casino image
We went to Cripple Creek for the ice sculpture event, and didn't want to eat the vendor food. Deciding to go back to the hotel we went to the Wildwood Casino to see if we could get a meal at Joe's Diner. The wait was long which could be expected since there were a lot of people in town that day. I ordered the salmon and mixed vegetables. I chose two servings of the mixed vegetables. I got a very overcooked, dry piece of salmon and only broccoli. I didn't want to complain because the staff were very nice and putting up with a lot of disgruntled people, but if the menu says mixed veg that's what it should be. My sister ordered a steak with asparagus and it came with 2 pieces of asparagus. My daughter seemed pleased with her prime rib and baked potato. This is not a great place for dinner. I'd look elsewhere. See more..
  26. 3.5 Johnny Nolon's Casino (36 reviews)
    - Casino Review Only
    Spent 2-3 hours Casinos
    Johnny Nolon's Casino image
This is a typical casino (money went way too fast) when it came to the machines. The building is cool, but the machines inside are the same as most casinos. It would be so cool if an old casino would have an area of vintage machines that actually work. I visited a place in Reno long ago that did just that with old metal machines. It was so cool and so much fun! See more..

  28. 3.0 Rocky Mountain Canary General Store (2 reviews)
    - Awful, Vulgar and Rude Service
    Speciality & Gift Shops
Rocky Mountain Canary General Store image
This establishment was suggested to our group for ice cream but the comments of a staff member about “hating to watch people eat ice cream” along with the vulgar language (in front of children) and other rude comments/behavior was beyond the pale. The ice cream was good but not at all worth the discourteous and obnoxious customer service. See more..
