  1. 5.0 Gibbons Honey Farm (7 reviews)

Do not miss this shop if you're visiting the area. This is what I crave when visiting somewhere new, a quaint local shop that defines a town's character. They provide high quality products at very reasonable prices. Along with excellent products they also provide some of the best service you can expect with advice, know how, and samples. As a bonus, be sure to ask for Molly, she's a cutie that loves her pets. See more..
  2. 5.0 Northwest Nebraska Rock Swap (1 review)
    - Best rock and mineral event by far !
Spent More than 3 hours Cultural Events
You'll stay and eat in Chadron, but the show is a few miles west in the Crawford city park. Rockhounds gather in late August with open air tables to share their hobby stories, skills, swap or sell raw materials like Fairburn agates, jaspers, gems. Daily field trips into local geologic formations to find collectible stone. This is all put together smoothly and attractively by local experts who clearly have years of experience. Kids love the colorful displays, casual visitors will learn so much about the scenic terrain and formations of western Nebraska, and dedicated hobby folks can find no better source of inspiration and supply. My wife and I travel close to 1000 miles just to be here for a few days each year. Be sure to bring rock from your own home areas to share at this event. It is great fun. See more..
  3. 4.5 Fort Robinson State Park (275 reviews)
    - A Great Stop on the Prairie
    State Parks
    Fort Robinson State Park image
This is an excellent state park with plenty of Western history, especially of the US cavalry and the native American tribes of the region. Markers note the location of the original fort and many buildings of the later installation remain, some being used as museums or cabins. There are some good trails on the edge of the park; we hiked up the ridges to the north for great views of the fort. Its in the middle of nowhere but a great stop to seek out. See more..
  4. 4.5 Hudson-Meng Bison Kill Research & Visitor Center (46 reviews)
    - Great USFS guys there.

For info on the site - read others. BUT - the visit includes an about 45min+ walk around and talk. I wasn't looking forward to it after 4 hours at Toadstool Geological Park, but it was great! The USFS guys there are really into their geology, geography, history, anthropology and archeology. Remember - part of the name is "Educational Center". And they are good at it! Our guide, Luke, on Aug 12 (afternoon) was a very good. For walkers - if it isn't killer hot, if you're going to both Toadstool Geological Park and Hudson Meng - take the 3 mile trail if you walk. It won't take much longer than the drive - but it's still 6mi walking round trip. Also - neither spot is going to be great if you have younger kids. Adolescents and above. See more..

  6. 3.5 Box Butte Reservoir State Recreation Area (2 reviews)
    - Remote, pretty, rustic, but disturbingly trashed

First time here, when the lake was rather low for dam toe drain replacement, still busy with people on a summer Sunday afternoon. Nice campsite deep in trees, and a fun kayak tour of the lake. However, was disappointed by the new and old trash all over campgrounds and out on the shorelines. It doesn't appear that anyone cares enough to do regular clean-up, including park staff. I picked up and deposited a lot of stray garbage. See more..
