At one of the first shows, unknown to us, Toby was setting behind us and asked us our opinion. Thankfully we couldn't stop praising everything. - 4.5 Lake Kittamaqundi (159 reviews)
-Love this lake!
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Gardens
We love this lake for dog walks. The walk around the lake is 1.7 miles and mostly flat. There are other paved paths that lead off from the lake so if you are interested in more distance there are lots of options. If you have dogs, there is a supply of bags for pick up and there are plenty of garbage cans along the way for deposit. My lab likes to swim and there are several entry points for him to take a dip. The lake is home to ducks, geese, and beavers. It is also a favorite spot for fireworks on the 4th. The restaurants on the lake are all very good. There is a major hotel on the lake. There is a spa there and also a Whole Foods. Very safe area with easy access to the mall but also very quiet and isolated. Great for walking, jogging, and bike riding. Super easy for kids because the hills are minimal. We go there several time a month. See more..

- 4.0 Merriweather Post Pavilion (348 reviews)
-Pleasantly Surprised
Concerts • Theatre & Performances
It had been a long (long, long, long) time since I had been to the venue, so I found the upgrades to be very nice. We got there early (within 15 minutes of gate opening), found parking immediately, and found a great lawn seat for what turned out to be an excellent show (Tears for Fears). We had time to look around, had no trouble with lawn space, bathrooms were accessible, food was pricey ($14.50 for a 20 oz beer, only reason for downgrade) but we brought plenty, stayed for the entire show, and were on Rt. 29 within 20 minutes of walking out of the gate after the show. All in all, a great finish to one of the best Fathers' Days ever. See more..
- 4.0 The Mall in Columbia (134 reviews)
-Shopping with The Children
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Shopping Malls
Overall a wonderful experience. My children and I love the layout of the mall and having a bowling alley in the mall is a terrific idea. The choice for fine dining is impeccable and to top that the restaurants for a quick bite included inside the mall is another beautiful idea. The decor for Christmas took the cake. For us it was a tremendous experience and a breathtaking one as well. My children got back to their hotel and was asking to be returned to the mall. Great end to our road trip stop in Colombia Maryland. See more..

- 4.0 Black Flag Brewing Co (24 reviews)
-Stopped by for a brew
Saturday: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
Stopped in on a rainy week day afternoon. Hadn’t been before, wanted to really like this place as I’ve found their beer in local stores and restaurants but wasn’t blown away overall. The beer was average, decor def seemed like an odd combo but they did have the whole social distancing thing under control and asked customers to wait at the door to be seated. Bartender wore a face mask the entire time. I’ll give BF Brewing a second try later. See more..
- 4.0 Columbia Swim Ctr with Splashdown (14 reviews)
-Awesome slides/rope swing
Water Parks
Just took the kids here (aged 6-10) and they had a blast! It was not crowded on a Saturday afternoon and by 5 pm, we were the only ones there! The slides were great as was the rope swing. Well kept and clean except for the stairwell going up to the slides which were slippery and kinda grody (why no rubber mats?)—make sure to wear water shoes! Only other drawback was that there was no heated pool for the kids to just play around in. There was one for the diving well and where slides exit. You could go down the hall to a lap pool but it was chilly! We’ll definitely come back though! See more..
- 4.0 Fairway Hills Golf Club (11 reviews)
-If you like target golf
Golf Courses
If you spray the ball and swing for all the distance you can muster, you'll find Fairway Hills especially challenging. If you're not a long hitter but keep the ball in the fairway consistently, you may find you can go lower than usual. In either case, you'll enjoy the Bermuda fairways and the well-kept but not very fast greens. See more..
- 4.0 Historic Oakland Mansion (10 reviews)
-Perfect venue for a special occasion
Saturday: Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
I have been to Oakland Manor for a variety of events: an English tea, a wedding, meetings. It''s a lovely venue for any occasion. See more..
- 4.0 Patuxent Branch Trail (10 reviews)
-History, views, and paved trails
Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
The Patuxent Branch Trail links Lake Elkhorn to Savage Mill. Multiple parking areas exist along the 4.2 mile total length of the trail (although the final 0.7 miles between Vollenhausen Rd and Savage Mill is non-paved trail). The free parking area that directly is associated with this review (at Guilford road) is located not-quite in the center of the trail (it is 2 miles from Lake Elkhorn and 2.2 miles from Savage Mill). The major landmark at this parking area is the old rail bridge, which is well worth a few pictures! Overall, you can easily get 10-12 miles by doing an out and back in each direction and adding the 1.9 mile Lake Elkhorn loop. See more..
- 4.0 Reckless Shepherd Brewing Co. (1 review)
-Nice Addition To The Area
Saturday: 11:00 AM - 12:00 AM Spent 2-3 hours Breweries
Located in a small strip center next to Wegman's, Reckless Shepherd is cavernous, with a bar to the left and a music stage and is very open with a 2nd bar in the back and a large outside seating area. What's a little confusing is there is a door on the side that reads Frisco Taphouse, which looks to be their new location and there is a door next to the bathrooms that will take you to the Frisco Taphouse from Reckless Shepherd. They use the Frisco Taphouse website for their own which is very poor. Everything is ordered at the table thru a code and delivered to the table, but it took a while to get it down and check your bill since one in our party had to get his bill corrected. They had an interesting selection of beers, and I loved their Chocolate Wheat beer that was a true wheat with some obvious chocolate but not overly chocolate like the very good Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter. My wife liked her TNT lager but didn't love it. On the food front it was pretty basic with the chicken tenders good and not overly battered or fried. The French fries were very good, and the pizza had way too much cheese, something that can be corrected. The crust was not burnt but tasted burnt which seemed unusual. All in all, we liked the atmosphere, and it must have been a good night since we stayed nearly 4 hours and the musician on stage was pretty good particularly with his 3 song Beatle medley. We all agreed we would definitely return. See more..
- 3.5 Sky Zone (30 reviews)
-Birthday Party (boy 9)
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM Game & Entertainment Centers
Went there for my son's birthday party. Check-in and event went very smoothly, and all the boys had LOADS of fun. The ONLY suggestion I would make, and why I didn't give it 5 stars, is there were no options for longer than one hour of play time. There's so much to do here, and the boys weren't ready to go into the party room after only one hour. A 90-minute play period would be much better. See more..
- 3.5 Washington Kali Temple (3 reviews)
-A serene abode of Gods
Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
Many temples are pompous, reflect grandeur made of shining marbles and the idols are of exquisite design and sculpture. The Washington Kali Temple is a simple serene down to earth abode of God where one easily finds peace and tranquility. The idol of Ma Kali is so motherly that she attract you seat in front of her to find solace from the demands of daily travail. The melodious voice of Mural bhai singing during Arati was fabulous.
