    - looking for curiosities ?
    Antique Shops
    Vintage Trixie image
This is a small place but it was one of the best places I have been to in a while. I have strange tastes and it's hard to find the type of curiosities I like to collect. I think Trixie makes a lot of the items in the place. You can also find things outside. Trixie was fun to talk to and was so nice. Along with the items for people "of strange taste" you will find collectibles, jewelry/vintage jewelry, some vintage clothes, toys, lighting, collectibles, books, vinyl and much more. If we are passing through Chesapeake again it will be the first place we stop. See more..

    Great Bridge Lock Park image
If you are lucky you will get to see a boat go thru the locks while you are there. There are plenty of picnic tables and trails to walk. There are parks on both sides of the bridge. One has a boat ramp. The other side has trails to view the marsh. It's a nice place to fish and crab.. sort of hidden within the city and some History markers. I love to see the boats near and just walk and relax. See more..

    - FUN and creative
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Glazenfyre image
Even though you dont "make" the ceramic item, painting it the way you want is a great activity for your creative self. Every Saturday is "girls night" and is a super fun way to spend time with your friends. There are also other special activity nights that get you in the shop to paint. Some of the items can be pretty pricey, but all the paint you need and use of materials, and firing of the item, is free. Many choices and many price points too. Be sure you are able to go pick up your item within a weeks time. See more..

  13. 4.0 Chesapeake Arboretum (84 reviews)
    - Beautiful trails
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Gardens
    Chesapeake Arboretum image
My husband, dog, and I walked the Chesapeake Arboretum trails for the first time today. We wanted fresh air and, due to COVID-19, not many people. We got it and loved it. The camellias were blooming, the trees had changed to their fall colors, and when we did cross paths with some other walkers, we had plenty of room to stay a safe distance. Lake Hughes was a pleasant surprise. With the Fall colors and ducks on the lake, our pictures were gorgeous. We're in our late 60s. We did have to watch the tree roots, but the day on the trails was so enjoyable. Kudos to the city of Chesapeake for well marked and nicely maintained trails. We'll definitely return. See more..
  14. 4.0 Northwest River Park (23 reviews)
    - Hike with my dog
Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Hiking Trails
    Northwest River Park image
This was a great place to hike with my dog! I prefer to take just one long trail but this park you must combine several small trails. It wasn’t too crowded but then again the trails were pretty muddy. My pup needed a bath when we got home. Just prepare and don’t bring your best sneakers or stick to the paved paths. See more..

There is nice land use with playground, fishing pier, porta johns, picnic area, kayak launch, water fountains, raised platforms to watch the pleasure craft and yachts await lock entrance. The trails are short but interesting water views and a bridge to an island. Playground looks safe with wood chips on surface. Historic cemetery on the premises but not in great shape. See more..

  18. 4.0 3 Little Black Birds (2 reviews)
    - Awesome
    Antique Shops
    3 Little Black Birds image
Don’t have any clue what the other reviewer was on when writing her lackluster review because there are plenty of old things, collectible, and non-collectible, and new beautifully crafted items…. Don’t let that one poorly worded and completely inaccurate review keep you from this gem of a place I have been shopping here since they were actually located across the bridge at the original location under a different name… u have to stop in if you are nearby. See more..
  19. 4.0 Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterway Park (2 reviews)
    - Re-enactors? You got them!
    Parks
If you enjoy watching re-enactors put on a realistic and historically correct program, prepare to come to the Great Bridge Battle on December 7-8 2019 at the Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterway Park. My wife and I attended the 2018 program and found it to be enjoyable. Added to the historic portrayal were booths and tents which allowed area craftsmen to display their talents. It is kid friendly also. Put it on your calendar. You will be glad that you did. See more..

  21. 3.5 Elizabeth River Park (3 reviews)
    - Back Again to Kayak and Walked the Bridge
    Parks
    Elizabeth River Park image
This place was hopping with dozens of guest on the fishing pier, and two dozen trucks with boat trailers in the parking lot devoted to that purpose. All the parking was at close to capacity. It was clean with done sunbathing and a few picnics, few in the dog park. Kayakers, there is a busy boat launch but not even a sandy beach for launching. You have to launch between the power boats and a portage from a parking lot. The snack bar has limited choice but some treats and beverages and bathrooms. Beware of tug boats that have powerful wakes and bring a hand horn just to alert other jet skis or tugs of your presence. People are usually friendly despite the waterway you launch into is called Scuffletown Creek. See more..
  22. 3.5 The Yard Sale Store & More (2 reviews)
    - nothing special
    Antique Shops
The Yard Sale Store & More image
Right now the only thing that sticks out in my mind is all the new items and taxidermy. Neither of these things interested me. If you are looking for gifts you might like the place. You can find a few collectibles, some furniture/painted furniture, craft items, new items, military, vinyl, coins, art, glassware, books, gas/oil advertising, toys, vintage jewelry, and taxidermy. However, if you are looking for any of those type of items, it really doesn't offer enough of each type to make a trip worthwhile in my opinion. If you are driving down the street and pass it, you might find it worth your while if you have 10 minutes to spare....maybe. See more..
  23. 3.0 Dominion Boulevard Veterans Bridge Toll Road (5 reviews)
    - Pedestrian / Bike walkway
    Spent < 1 hour Bridges
We enjoy the walk over the bridge. Approximately 1.5 miles one way. Only negative point would be the noise from the traffic. See more..
  24. 3.0 Hickory Salvage Company (1 review)
    - they just didn't offer enough to make it worth our while driving there
    Antique Shops
    Hickory Salvage Company image
This place was a lot smaller that we expected. They did offer some architectural salvage along with some furniture/painted furniture, some vintage jewelry, some antiques, some collectibles, some vintage, and some hand-made crafts but not much of any of them. However, the people inside were very nice and we had a great time talking with them. There was one metal piece that I would have loved to have but it was way too big to fit in our car. If you find yourself in the area it's worth checking out though. See more..
