Burnstad, a ghost town today (no active businesses, a few remaining residences), was once a flourishing village on the Soo Line (now the Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western Railroad). That rail line runs on the west side of the site, between the townsite and Beaver Creek. About a mile east is Beaver Lake State Park (a lovely place, also reviewed in TA). There remain on the site two business buildings: a false-fronted, corrugated metal-covered building that faces the railroad and was, I am told, a hardware store; and another metal-sided building, some sort of retail business, facing old Long Street. In the middle of the abandoned townsite stands, as is the case with so many prairie ghost towns, the town pump. The proximity of Burnstad to Beaver Lake invites a look-in by people making a recreational drive in the locality.
