Broken Compass Brewery & Tap House image
Went one day to buy t-shirts and pet dogs, and again last night to sample some beers. The tap house has a great laid back vibe, extremely welcoming, and fantastic reasonably priced beers. Samples are available to try, so you should be able to find something you like, the Coconut Porter and Sour were exceptionally good. A big thanks to Trevor who was a fantastic host, made us feel very welcome and is a genuine nice guy!1 See more..
  3. 5.0 Vail Pass Path (190 reviews)
    - Wonderful bike trail
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Vail Pass Path image
This is a very well designed trail which I highly recommend. Most people bike just downhill, but the up and downhill ride from Frisco to Vail (28 miles total) was worth the time, energy burned, and expense (bike rental). (The bike shop in Frisco next to the Walmart was excellent for that, btw). If they could only put up a little barrier (and clean off the gravel) between the short downhill section from the top of the pass (headed toward Vail) that goes right by the highway. See more..

    Sapphire Point Overlook image
Our first visit to Breck, and this “hike” was highly recommended. It did not disappoint! We went on a Monday afternoon around 4pm, and there were very few people there. So peaceful. We took 2 laps of the short loop to enjoy it twice. This is a must-do and can be done in 30 minutes. See more..
  5. 5.0 Quandary Peak (105 reviews)
    - Steep and Deep.
    Lookouts
    Quandary Peak image
Just remember that you've only done half of the work once you get to the top. This is a well-maintained, beautiful hike (east ridge) but it is steep and rocky especially for the last push. Plenty of talus and scree. Views are pretty unbeatable once you hit treeline. Be aware of the new parking regulations and make your life easier by snagging a reserved space below the trailhead. Coming down the mountain, like any other 14er, is as physical as it is mental. Brace yourself for how long it will take and make sure you take plenty of water, snacks, and breaks if you are new to 14ers or have kids along for the ride. Enjoy! See more..
  6. 5.0 Mohawk Lake Trail (92 reviews)
    - Crisp, Alpine Setting.
Spent More than 3 hours Scenic Walking Areas
    Mohawk Lake Trail image
A great little trail just outside of Breckinridge. Reaching the lower lake took us up close to 1500 ft of ascent. The trail can get a little twisty and hard to follow at times, but with a steady trickle of other hikers, we found our way. The alpine lake is stunning and you get a lovely waterfall on the way as well. Take it all in and enjoy the crisp air and views as you move higher and higher. See more..
  7. 5.0 Blue Lakes (65 reviews)
    - Rough road, but worth it!
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
    Blue Lakes image
We drove up to the first lake, half of our group walked around the lake to the large waterfall & the other half walked up to the second lake. It’s a long steep incline up to the second lake, so unless you are used to hiking, I recommend you drive to the upper lake. The hike around the lower lake is much easier & allows for younger & older visitors to enjoy the area. The road up has recently been grated, so it’s a much easier road than the road to the first lake. At the top lake area, there is another waterfall & another lake. We saw mountain goats at the top lake. Views from above are AMAZING!! See more..
  8. 5.0 Isak Heartstone (58 reviews)
    - A must see!
    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    Isak Heartstone image
Just a short walk off of Main Street you'll find this amazing sculpture! Once I saw the pictures I knew I couldn't leave without seeing Isak Hearthstone! From the Ice Rink parking lot you just follow the signs down the nicely done wooden path until .... there he is! Very cool sculpture made from recycled materials, it's such a fun little adventure! We went about 3:00 pm, there weren't too many people and most stayed more than six feet away from each other. It's a beautiful area that offers hiking trails and places to just sit and enjoy the scenery. If you are just planning on seeing Isak, the whole experience takes under one hour. If you'd like to hike the trail, I would plan for one to two hours. See more..

    Breckenridge Gondola image
The Breckenridge Gondola is the best way to ascend the mountain to access the peaks and ski slopes. Me and my friends are not skiers, so the gondola was free to us as "scenic riders" until 3:00 PM. We rode up and enjoyed watching the skiers and snowboarders from Robbie's. See more..

  11. 4.5 Boreas Pass Road (682 reviews)
    - Fall fun
    Scenic Drives
    Boreas Pass Road image
This trip is not for the faint of heart. There are some parts where you will be teetering on the edge trying to squeak by while another car is going down the mountain. Once you get past the nail biting parts get ready for some beauty. I went here mid-late fall so there was some part where there was a lot of beautiful foliage and other parts where the leaves had already fallen. It truly is a beautiful pass. There are some pretty rough spots so it’s probably best if you have an SUV, truck or a car that’s not lowered. In good weather most cars can make it up but I’d reckon in any other type of weather definitely go with AWD or 4 wheel drive. See more..

  13. 4.5 McCullough Gulch (315 reviews)
    - Wonderful Views & Achievable For Any Level
    Hiking Trails
    McCullough Gulch image
Great hike with a little bit of everything. I would agree with the Moderate skill rating due to some narrow crossings over streams, medium rocks to traverse, and uneven footing on inclines in spots. Overall we saw children under 5yrs old and folks over 70yrs old along the way. The effort is worth it for the waterfall and lake at the summit! Highly recommend it. Took us 4hrs exactly parking 1/4 mile from the gate to do the hike to the first lake and back including stopping and eating lunch at the waterfall. See more..

Beautiful views once you get on the trail. The trail is about 2.5 miles. Everyone suggests that you hike the loop counterclockwise go up past the gate on the right and follow the gravel road. If you just want a great view follow gravel rod to the left. When you can see the whole of blur lake and the dam go a couple of hundred yards and it seems like you can see the whole world! See more..

    Carter Park image
If you’re looking for a free place to go ice sledding while you’re staying in Breckinridge, Carter Park is where to go. We were told to purchase our own sleds, but when we got there, there were unclaimed sleds lying around and a little shed that had sleds in it for you to borrow then return. Save you some money, go check out the park first to see if there’s sleds, then go have all the fun you can on the snow!!! See more..

  22. 4.5 Sawmill Reservoir (89 reviews)
    - Wondeful trail - and treated by a serene reservoir surrounded by the mountains!
    Bodies of Water
    Sawmill Reservoir image
We hiked the Sawmill Trail up from Breckenridge, following under one of the ski lifts for a bit. Suddenly you pop out to amazing vistas of the Sawmill Reservoir! Easy to walk all the way around, taking in the beauty and (for us on this day) the calm waters. We sat for an hour and watched a kayak class learn. People were picnicking and generally just enjoying the beauty of this mountain reservoir. One of our highlights! See more..
  23. 4.5 High Line Railroad Park (76 reviews)
    - History lesson
Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Parks • History Museums
    High Line Railroad Park image
Get your fill of Breckenridge's railroad history at the High Line Railroad Park. This outdoor site is great for families and visitors of all ages. Outside, the park includes Engine No. 9, one of the original locomotives that served Breckenridge in the late 1800s, as well as a boxcar display, caboose, and a rotary snowplow that was used to clear the tracks of snow. Kids will love playing at the railroad themed playground park and "blowing" the whistle for Engine No. 9. Picnic tables dot the park - a great spot for a family picnic. Parking available next to the park. Restrooms located in the Ice Arena. This is a great stop for families visiting Isak Heartstone, the Breckenridge Troll. We are located across the parking lot from the start of the new troll train. Please note this is a static site; we do not offer train rides. See more..
  24. 4.5 Spruce Creek Trail (75 reviews)
    - Challenging Hike
    Hiking Trails
    Spruce Creek Trail image
This was such an amazing hike to truly experience the Rocky Mountains. You have to start with the Spruce Creek Trail to connect to the lake and falls trails unless you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We parked here and started walking. The trail starts in the trees along the creek, but is still mostly uphill. Then it starts opening up more, but gets even steeper. You will walk right next to an awesome waterfall. After this you reach the lower lake. We took a break here as it is another steep hike to the upper lake. It is so peaceful at the top, so it is well worth it. The trails can get busy, but that was helpful to make sure we were going the right way. It was a very fun 6 hour hike where we got in probably 8 miles total. See more..
