    State Parks
    Lake Metigoshe State Park image
For me being around water, trails, trees, wildlife, birds....well, Lake Metigoshe State Park supplies all that. Seems like every time I visit there's a new "surprise" or something "different". I enjoy spending time at the South and North Hill Picnic area. This visit I was greeted by a doe and her two yearlings and an American Bald Eagle flew over just after my arrival. I went into the campground and found a portion of the Old Oak Trail that I wanted to hike. It went out to Oriole Island. I had heard there were loons there but unfortunately I didn't see them. I was lucky to see other song birds in the trees though and chipmunks and a snake. This trip I didn't stay in the park but I had stayed in the Cormorant Cabin previously and enjoyed it very much. Sunrises over School Section Lake can be really amazing. I hope you enjoy the photos I'm including. See more..

We stopped here on a rainy morning. Take the time to read the kiosks before you go up to see the exhibits. Uniqueness is the proper word to explain why you should stop here. You will see a sundial, a North Star sighting tube and rock formations that resemble Stonehenge of the Old World. Remember to read the Kiosk information that tells the story of Jack Olson as to why he built it here and what it represents. Plenty of room for parking and a great place to stretch your legs and maybe some motivation for your mind. See more..
  4. 4.5 Dog House Saloon (2 reviews)
    - A stop to wash away the road dust ....
    Bars & Clubs

Stopped in here while on tour through the area. It is definitely a local watering hole but I found the locals to be friendly and engaging which is really what you are looking for in a road stop. Bartender even had homemade cookies that she was handing out just because it is a small town and that's what they do. I would recommend it as a stop for anyone on tour through the area and I would go again if passing through See more..
