Snake Canyon Guide - Sultan image
The 5 hour canyoning trip at Snake Canyon with Sultan was the highlight of our Oman holiday! Sultan was a great guide. He provided us with helmets and lifejackets (optional) for our family of 5. He knew the best way to step, slide and jump through the canyon so that we all got through safely and made sure we all had a fun time. We had chicken biryani and Omani coffee and dates with him and his brother in their village afterwards. We are so happy we went with Sultan as he had so much local knowledge, was much more affordable than other package canyoning tours, and was able to arrange everything over whatsapp just a week before our trip. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try canyoning in Oman! See more..

We were driven here and through the wadi by a driver/guide in a four wheel drive vehicle. My advice would be don't attempt this in a saloon car or on your own. You need local expertise to drive competently here. There is a village right at the end but it will take you around an hour and a half to get there. The wadi walls are high and the off road track is sometimes narrow. There are real rock falls here and if it rains there could be flash floods. We picnic-ed inside the wadi and it was awe-inspiring. I would definitely go again but always with an experienced driver/guide in a 4 wheel vehicle. Something not to miss though... See more..

Bike and Hike Oman - Tours image
Amdy our guide was punctional, accommodating, and friendly. We made a last minute change from biking to hiking and it was easy to do. We saw Bahla, the Bahla fort, Jabreen Castle by bike. And then toured the Grand Canyon of Oman on foot. Amdy is a naturalist and knows a lot about the local flora and fauna. He also takes fantastic pictures! He was very considerate and started at a slow pace on both the bike and the hike, which was the polite thing to do, but then when we said "hey, we wanna sweat!", he picked up the pace and we got the work out we wanted. There is so much to see in the mountains of Oman; we highly recommend Bike and Hike Oman as well as The View resort. Top notch w/o being overdone. See more..

We booked a one day tour with Abdulrahman from Canyon Adventures and Tours. Everything was perfect. quick reply on booking. The tour with Nabil was amazing. He brought all the safety gear (unfortunately none xxl harness) and was very cautious during the whole walk. He is a wonderful guide and did a great job. I can only recommend this beautiful tour. Little downside, there is some waste thrown in this beautiful canyon like in many other places in Oman. See more..

We did a tour of Jabal Akhdar and Nizwa. Our guide Issam met us at the foot of the mountains as we drove down from Muscat. He took us up to the mountains and we took a walk down one of the valleys. We had some fresh apricots from the valley. Issam pointed out all the different trees and the fruits they bear such as walnuts pomegranate and apricots. We visited a few places and took in the spectacular views. We had a delicious lunch at one of the resorts in the mountain. Issam told us about the famous honey, rosewater and olive oil from the mountains. We later took a tour of Nizwa and saw an old mosque that was built in 1200 and has been refurbished for people to pray in. Issam was a competent driver and was well versed in Omani history and the geography of the Jabal Akhdar mountains. I would definitely recommend the tour group as we really enjoyed the friendly nature of our guide. See more..

Sightseeing tour in Jabal Akhdar with Soprano image
Most amazing and unique experience in Jebel akhdar! Sami showed us around his family village and home, and told the most heartwarming stories about his childhood in the village. He gave amazing insight on how they grow and maintain the terrace grounds then and now. At the end of the mini hike, he surprised us with the cutest dinner setup, on the roof of his old family house overlooking the beautiful mountains, and made - in my opinion- some of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. A truly passionate chef who perfected his craft in pizza dough making, with so much knowledge about the science behind bread-making and the importance of using great ingredients. If you’re in Jebel Akhdar this experience is a MUST. Words and pictures will never do this experience justice, you must try it for yourselves! See more..

We had an amazing day hiking through snake canyon, accompanied by our guide Zaher (0096892394778), who runs tours through the canyon with his brother Rashid (0096892360136) operating from the nearby Bilad Sayt. The tour itself is spectacular. During our 5-hour trip, we swam through narrow gorges surrounded by high cliffs and a cave, abseiled into the canyon from heights of 30 meter, and had the chance to jump in pools from heights of up to 10 meter. During the tour Zaher proved to be a very reliable guide, showing us the safest routes to go through the canyon, and helping us getting safely past some obstacles. We could clearly see that Zaher and Rashid were experienced guides, as they had been visiting this canyon for decades. After the hike we were invited to Zaher's house in Bilad Sayt for a traditional Omani lunch. If you are in the Rustaq area and are interested to see the canyon we strongly recommend to contact Zaher and Rashid. Apart from the 5-hour tour that we did, there is also an option for a 3-hour tour, which enters the canyon from a different entrance and does not include the abseiling, but features many of the other highlights of the tour. All together the hike through snake canyon was a highlight in our trip to Oman. See more..

One of the best experiences we had lately, camping with Teepee luxury tents. Everything was set a day before in a beautiful location with breathtaking views of Al Jabal Al Akhdar ⛰✨ . 2 canvas tents were set, the main one with a comfy queen bed & nicely furnished in a nomadic theme, the second one included board games as an entertainment tent. Both tents were big enough allowing you to walk easily in! ✨ Private tented WC & solar shower where set close to the main tent ensuring a hassle free stay ! XD . In love with all the details they considered starting from the seating area close to the cliff & all the preparations & essentials you will need during your stay! We surely had a special anniversary celebration Breakfast & snacks were provided & stored perfectly. Clean cutlery, plates , Grilling set & charcoal were ready to use !! . The only thing we found missing were portable heaters as it was freezing at night . The team was great, communication was easy, @s_awladthani took us on a hike the next morning showing us the beautiful villages of Al Jabel ⛰ . Highly recommended See more..
  23. 5.0 Balad Seet (1 review)
    - Great Location, Oasis-garden and Village nestled under huge mountain-walls
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Balad Seet image
We took the Wadi Bani Awf road, near Rustaq . The road is itself a great experience, breathtaking landscapes, very few tourists, adventerous road conditions, steep dirt road. You definitely need a good 4x4 with high ground clearance and should be an experienced driver, We missed the turn to the ascending road (hidden between two houses), but we gained the extra award of a fantastic small canyon at the dead end of our detour. The hill climbing road is adventurous and gives the driver big fun (if you like it, if you are afraid of narrrow steep and winding dirt roads you definitely should not drive further on). We never had problems with crossing cars, but threre are many parts of the road one of two would have to moove back...). The dead-end road to Balad Said is again steep and it is recommandable to go down to the village (we observed some tourits who only stopped at a view point, than turned back). The village is very calm, no uinfrastructure. It sems that ther is a small hotel under construction on the opposite hoill. One can hope that it will not disturb the tranquilility. Back on the "main" track you than have to climb almost 1500 altidude meters virtually along the rock-walls on the very, very steep dirt road to reach the unnamed pass bringing you to the valley /fFlats of the Al Hamra Oasis. The descent on a highway-like modern road offers great sights to bizarre mountain formations (we felt like beeing on the Planet Tatoine or any other StarWars film set). See more..

My jsme dorazili v kraťasech. Od coffee shopu nastává klesání. Doporučuji se na toto místo vydat. Only 4WD cars are allowed to enter the area. Road is in very good condition, many view points along both sides of the road. Relatively cold at coffee shop place, abt. 15degr.C only, tasty kadar tee there. From this place you drive downhill to Wadi Bani Habib, very nice place with old village. Restaurant, shop, bakery, petrol station - just 10-15 minutes from Wadi Badi Habib See more..

We visited as part of our Oman trip the fort "Jabreen", which was built at the end of the 17th century. The complex is very well preserved and is also very well maintained. Various rooms with artistically decorated windows and ceiling graphics can be admired. An audio guide with various languages is included in the entrance fee. The visit of this palace is absolutely recommended! See more..
  27. 4.5 Misfat al Abreyeen (413 reviews)
    - The beauty of the town is appreciable, and also the way in which this beauty is enhanced.
    Historic Sites
    Misfat al Abreyeen image
Having been engaged for most of the day on the "Balcony walk" trail, which overhangs Wadi Ghul, we were only able to arrive at dusk in Misfat al Abreyeen. Therefore we were unable - for example - to take advantage of the guided circuits in the "aflaj" of the town, i.e. the canals which since ancient times have brought water from the mountains to the rural or (as in this case) urban oases. I am very sorry to have missed this opportunity. Even so, however, I have come to appreciate the beauty of the town, and also the way in which this beauty is enhanced, by restoring the buildings, organizing B&Bs, cafes and other places open to the public. The historic center of nearby Al Hamra is probably not inferior to this in terms of values, but still appears largely semi-abandoned and ruined. It is to be hoped that he will follow the virtuous example of Misfat al Abreyeen. See more..

At just over 2000 meter. Jebel Shams Resort is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the famous "Grand Canyon of Oman" and a visit to us on Oman's highest Mountain at approximately 3000 Meter is great place from which to enjoy the mountain. A warm welcome is ready for all those weary adventurers who visit it. Enjoy a perfect starry night sky outside one of our Arabic Rents or Chalets and enjoy a warming campfire at night. During the day there are lots of lovely walks and treks to suit all levels of fitness. For those who want to just relax then there is a swimming pool and lovely views of the surrounding stunning mountain vista. See more..

Wadi Ghul - Oman's Grand Canyon image
We drove to Jebel Shams for a couple of days of walking in the mountains. We didn't do what most people seem to come here to do. We had decided in advance that the Balcony Walk probably wasn't for us - it looked a bit too busy and a bit too scary in places. We spent the first day following the W4 walk along the top of the canyon. It's a steady walk requiring only a moderate level of fitness. We didn't see another walker on the W4 route all day, so I would recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of peace and quiet. The views are breathtaking and there are plenty of great spots to sit and have lunch. On the second day, we picked up a trail behind one of the resorts in Jebel Shams, walked it for a while before going off piste to explore the nearby gullies. It was a bit more strenuous with some slow going on the rocky descents, but still accessible to most. See more..
  30. 4.5 Bait Al Safah (119 reviews)

    Bait Al Safah image
Located in the old and "phantom-like" Al Hamra village stood this 400 year old building, which houses a typical Omani household. Under the guidance of our guide we sat at the huge gathering room to be served Omani coffee, the traditional way (including the appropriate gestures to accept or refuse a second cup). After having strolled around the numerous rooms we watched three of the household ladies producing juniper oil and making Omani bread. It was definitely a special experience. See more..
