My wife & I experienced Beerenberg Volcano on a cruise visit to Jan Mayen, an island belonging to Norway in the Sea of Greenland. When we departed the village and weather station on Jan Mayen we sailed past Beerenberg Volcano on our way to the Svalbard Archipelago. The massive cone and sides are filled with snow. The volcano last erupted in the mid-1980s. The captain of the cruise ship pointed out that very few people get to see the complete volcano because there is normally a cloud cover surrounding it.
