Things to do & places to visit in Alofi, Niue

Alofi cover image
With a population of just over 600 people, Niue's humble capital, Alofi, is home to much of the island nation's industry, its government and the only bank in the country. The area is marked by steep limestone cliffs, coastal caves and the beautiful Alofi Bay. 2004's Cyclone Hete caused extensive damage to the southern half of the city, but essential services such as the hospital and government buildings have since been rebuilt in more protected locations.

  1. 5.0 Niue OrientationTour (383 reviews)
    - A True orientation
Saturday: 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM Private Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Photography Tours • Bus Tours
    Niue OrientationTour image
My experience with this company was truly an orientation that provided easy access to areas familiar with our tour guide, Sue, who had the knowledge and historical background of this unique island. Two of our party had hired their own rental but found it very difficult to find their way to some important locations and were also not aware of the dangers of out going rips at certain low tide swimming areas. I took many photos and was able to sketch from these and provide the information with the scene. See more..

    Magical Niue Sea Adventures image
We were so very privileged to book our whale watching outing with Magical Niue. They genuinely want you to see whales and do all they can to make that happen. Even to the point of discounting your fee if you don't get the experience you hope for. In our case - Rami and team went so far beyond what could be expected and gave us the most magical experience and time with two cavorting whales - I can't thank them enough - it is a memory we will have forever. They are also very cautious and protective of the whales and abide by the regulations very carefully to be sure the whales will keep on returning to Niue See more..

    Fish Niue Charters image
Just had 2 weeks on "The Rock" in the Pacific, Niue Island and my husband had 3 Charters with BJ from Fish Niue Charters.BJ is a very experienced skipper and knows how to get you on to fish. He did mostly trolling and my husband caught Wahoo, Mahimahi, yellow fin tuna, barracuda, and rainbow runner. He also did some bottom fishing and got big pacific snapper and ugly looking JobFish. would recommend BJ to anyone wanting to go sportfishing in Niue. BJ gave us some beautifully presented pieces of yellowfin and mahimahi for us to cook. I would rate MahiMahi the best to eat, so sweet and juicy See more..

We had a fantastic time with Ness and BJ out on the water! Thank you both so very much for the experience you gave us with the whales at your beautiful country! We are a couple in our late forties and early fifties. Ness and BJ are bothe experts in the topography and the animal behaviour and were able to put us in positions to get amazing photos and swim-bys with Humpback whales with their calves. Thank you both so very much! See more..

Was taken here by some locals as wanted to get down and dance. The locals were very hospitable and I think they will always remember my insane dancing. Had a blast. Just make sure you don't get there too early. Got there about 10pm and apparently it doesn't get busy until 11ish. Great music and light show! See more..

  19. 4.5 Buccaneer Adventures Niue Dive (210 reviews)
    - Niue Dive, Buccaneer adventures
    Saturday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Scuba & Snorkelling
    Buccaneer Adventures Niue Dive image
Glad I booked my six dives well in advance as with the second flight each week, these guys were run off their feet and were turning people away. Professional enough operation and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Took my own gear but the hire gear looked fine. Small RIBs and an aly glass bottomed boat, but the dive sites were not far from the launch ramps and a two dive trip only took about 3 hours so no complaints about the transport. Dive guides were very competent and put everyone at ease. Diving was fun with 27 deg water and 40-50 mtr visability. I'm told it gets better than this at times. Mixture of caves, boulders and hard corals with all dives starting at the drop off, only a few metres from shore. Plenty of fish and sea Craiks, Turtles, sharks, Dolphins etc, but no Whale encounters. I think I share others views that the Whale encounter trips need revising. We all know whales aren't circus animals that show up on time every day, but peoples expectations rise, especially if they've spotted a few whales from the shore and are paying $100+. I was able to be a little more pragmatic as I had already had some great dives, but if I had gone just for the whales I would have been disappointed. Maybe in future you should advertise these trips as snorkelling trips where we MAY see whales, we MAY see Dolphins or we WILL see some great fish over the reef. Also you need to get the jungle drums working so you get info from other dive boats, fishing boats and even people along the shore, to guide you to where the whales may be. I know this is your first year Shannon and Krystal, so take this review in the way it was meant, as constructive criticism rather than complaint. You are doing a great job and will have a great dive facility soon. I very much look forward to coming back to your beautiful island for another dive holiday See more..

We came here quite a few times during our stay on Niue as it was so central to Alofi. It was such a beautiful spot with a white sandy beach, warm water and amazing tropical fish; the snorkeling was amazing. We even saw some dolphins just a few hundred meters away from us. See more..

I found this museum very interesting (maybe more so because i lived on Niue from 1967 - 1970). Displays were well set out and the staff member i spoke with was helpful and informative. As a lot of items were lost in Cyclone Heta 2004 i think they are doing extremely well See more..

  25. 4.5 Hei Niue (2 reviews)
    - Island style pampering in the middle of town

    Hei Niue image
Hei Niue is a great little simple pamper spot in Alofi where you can rest your feet in a lovely spa bath before a relaxing pedicure followed by gel painted toes which will remind you of your holiday in the sun long after you return home, in my case to a freezing winter! TaniRose looked after us really well and has some fantastic honey based products for sale too. Very comfortable chairs and friendly staff makes this a must do if you'd like to put your feet up and unwind during your holiday. It's situated directly behind the police station in Alofi and you can't miss the big sign painted on the wall. See more..
