Iconic point for panorama view of the city and entire harbour of Monaco. Courtyard is big but empty, very clean indeed. Change guards at 11.55AM everyday but I didn't want to wait around as heard it's always too crowded. It was nice enough for magnificent view and the route to walk up on top of the hill was pleasant. It's a highlight visit while you're in Monaco. See more..

Monaco is not only prestige, glamour, F1 races, fancy boutiques, casinos, pricey hotels, expensive cars, richness and fame, the city has some more to offer - Monaco Old Town. Located on the ridge above the Mediterranean Sea and since 1297 is under the rule of Grimaldi family. The largest open space in the Old Town is Palace Square, where is located the Prince's Palace. On the opposite side of the square, you can dive into the stroll through narrow streets filled up with cafes, restaurants and small shops. Interesting points with significant historical value can be find out there, such as Monaco Cathedral, Old Town and Oceanographic Museums, Princess Grace Irish Library, some chapels and monuments dedicated to the ruling dynasty, also some government buildings and gardens. The last, but not least important, there are a magnificent views from the main square on the both side of the city-state. Absolutely recommended and it's worth to take a tour. See more..

    Princess Grace Irish Library image
Princess Grace's grandfather was born in County Mayo in 1847, and emigrated to USA. Princess Grace was proud of her Irish ancestry, she amassed a collection of Irish books, which has been added to along the way. A fascinating collection including original books, and memorabilia from Grace's life and childhood. I was lucky enough to be shown around by Judith, the Administrator, who was generous with her time, passionate and enthusiastic. Brings a special insight into Monaco to hear a lifelong native talk about everyday life, the people and reminisces about Princess Grace. See more..

Our accommodation was close to this church, so we passed it a number of times. Being just after Christmas - it was quite special to be able to pay respects to St Nicholas! There was a lovely nativity outside, as well as a statue of St Nicholas. The church itself (from the outside, we didn't go inside) was quite striking. See more..

Changing of the guards ceremony is being held daily at 11:50am and lasts for 10 minutes. This ancient ceremony is being held the same way for few hundred of years so if only for the tredition it is worth watching. Try and come 10-15 minutes earlier to take a spote at the ropes for best photo opportunities. See more..

  25. 4.0 Les Grands Appartements du Palais (114 reviews)
    - Definitely worth a visit
    Speciality Museums
Les Grands Appartements du Palais image
The Palais Princier isn't open all year round but is a very rewarding visit. The exterior of the Palace, viewed from the square looks a bit Disneyesque but don't be misled. The interior of the palace is a stunningly beautiful Renaissance creation and immaculately maintained, everything gleams, from the chandeliers to the marble floors. You are given an audio guide as part of the entrance fee which gives you more information about the rooms you are viewing. No photographs are allowed which you might think a shame but it does help the smooth flow of visitors through rooms. This is a unique place, most of the rooms are used for official functions. We bought a joint ticket to visit the Car Collection of Prince Rainier which made a good day out. Tickets are purchased in the pavillion opposite the palace. We saw Prince Albert leave the Palace on an official visit just as we arrived, so you never know who you might spot. See more..

  27. 4.0 Fontvieille Shopping Centre (72 reviews)
    - Fontvieille Shopping Centre
    Shopping Malls
    Fontvieille Shopping Centre image
Simply, if you’re in the area you should check out the Fontvieille shopping mall. Carrefour is a large super store carrying more than groceries; this is where the locals shop inexpensively. Other shops in the mall include music, shoe, clothing, jewelry and even an ice cream shop. McDonald's second floor offers a fantastic view of the Yachts and Palace and even on a rainy day we found ourselves sipping coffee and enjoying the view from there. Just outside Carrefour you can take the outdoor escalator up and explore the sights of Monaco or take the elevator up through the mountain/rock opening to the streets of Monaco. Sure you can find luxury shopping in Monaco but if you need a few things and want to pick them up easily and quickly and enjoy a great view, this is the place. I have included a web site for all shopping in Monaco area. See more..
  28. 4.0 Palais de justice de Monaco (70 reviews)
    - Overlooked

Palais de justice de Monaco image
This is an overlooked building, it is directly across from the Cathedral that serves as Princess Grace's final resting place. Therefore, everyone walks right by without a second glance. I did take a photo of this building for the arched windows and cornices. See more..

    Arenas & Stadiums
    Stade Nautique Rainier III image

  30. 4.0 Grimaldi Statue (29 reviews)
    - It's a trap!!!
    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    Grimaldi Statue image
They have no shame.....this family put up a statue on how they killed and stole power. I found it rather odd and amusing they built a statue to show the first Grimaldi fooling his way inside to seize control. See more..
