I was with Jefalgi Papua Tours at the Korowai tribe and the Baliem Valley in II.2017 during 11 days. The choice was difficult because it is difficult to decide on the distance of a good guide. But I decided first of all: a very good e-mail contact with the Athan. The answers to my many questions answered patiently, and tips and advice were invaluable. It was very reliable and professional help, and then the organization. The choice was difficult from the other end of the world - if there are many guides, but there are only few reviews. Especially I recommend the guide Olfied. Very professional person. Everything was very well organized, there were no problems. Olfied has very strong knowledgeable about the area, tells interesting stories and has a great contact with people. He helps and cares about everyone. 11 days to visit the Korowai tribe and the Baliem Valley is too short. A better solution is an extended stay in the jungle than in the Baliem Valley. Korowai tribe is very friendly (we all still live, they do not eat us ). Due to the short time trip, every day we were on the trekking. It lacked even 1 or 2 days to spend time in one hamlet. The expedition is not cheap, but worth it and you have to come here and see the last place of wildlife and wild nature and the people who live here without the achievements of civilization. This is a real return to the past. Although the Valley Baliem disappointed me. Next time I would like go on trekking only into the jungle and tribes. See more..

Raymond was an excellent guide. He picked us up at the airport and kept the four of us under his wing for the week until dropping us back off at the airport. We toured Wamena and enjoyed the culture of Baliem Valley. The cook and porters were local and added a great deal to our enjoyment. Food was very tasty and lots of water to drink - some in our group used flavour crystals when the water had to be boiled near the end of the trek. Be prepared for heat and humidity, but Raymond new some great swimming spots. Sleeping quarters were rustic, but part of the culture to experience - bring a sheet to cover the mattresses. Bugs were no problem. Enjoy the culture and people. Everyone was very friendly. We brought soccer balls to play with the kids at the end of the day, then left the balls at the schools. If you can bring medicine - tylenol and antiseptic cream were the most needed (and lighter to carry)- no clinics but lots of churches. Go before the road goes through to the valley. See more..
  3. 5.0 Pugima - Traditional Village (5 reviews)
    - Walking through the Pugima Valley is like stepping back in time

    Pugima - Traditional Village image
I visited the village in the Pugima Valley as part of a day trip organised by Dr Weiglein Expeditions, while I was staying at the gorgeous Baliem Valley Resort. I had a chance to visit many villages and hamlets during my time in the Baliem Valley, all of which were unforgettable. It’s encouraging to see how fiercely protective the Dani and other tribes in the Baliem Valley are of their traditions, and how many people still want to live a traditional lifestyle despite the march of modernity. Sure, some hamlets now have generators and electricity – but as the houses are still constructed using time-honoured methods, and you’ll encounter men who have several wives living with them in enclosed compounds, visiting these villages feels like stepping into a time warp. When walking through the Pugima Valley, we were caught in an epic rain storm. As we stood shivering under a tree, a woman came from a nearby hut and offered us a place beside her fire until the storm passed. I was incredibly touched by her kindness; and after encountering the very worst of human nature when trying to book tours around Southeast Asia – see my forum posts, for example – it revived my faith in humanity. 6. 5.0 Carstensz Pyramid (2 reviews)
    - CARSTENSZ PYRAMID EXPEDITION
    Mountains
    Carstensz Pyramid image
Our expedition to climb Carstensz Pyramid (4.884M) as one of the world's seven summit in West Papua, Indonesia. To join our private expedition by helicopter Why helicopter travel? We choose to use helicopters for our current expeditions because we see this as the best chance to provide a successful expedition while meeting the logistical challenges of traveling in West Papua. Trips into basecamp near much reliance on local Dani Tribesman, and helicopter transport in general reduces the number of variables in reaching our destination. Additionally, local politics, staying healthy while trekking, and the extremely limited ability to provide emergency assistance on the trek makes helicopter use the best option. This highest peak in Oceania – Carstensz Pyramid (16.023 feet/ 4884m) one of the most exotic world’s famous SEVEN SUMMITS the most spectacular adventures in Irian Jaya, climbing the glacier covered Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid located in the Mount Lorenz Reserve National Park. Trekking to the Carstensz Pyramid is one of the most beautiful treks Papua can offer. Although it is demanding the things you’ll see and experience on the way, are wonderful and absolutely unique. It begins at the height of 2000 m in an area of mountainous rain forest. You wade through rivers, climb over logs and primitive bridges, and then the biotope changes into a short belt of misty forests, which opens to the Kembalo Plato that is situated at 3500 m.
