Tallinn Museum of Orders of Knighthood image
If you like history, mythology, jewellery and design, or are a serious scholar of phaleristics - be sure to plan a visit to the Tallinn Museum of Orders of Knighthood. Among our most prized possessions are decorations of the Orders of the Garter, the Golden Fleece, Malta, Black Eagle and the Legion of Honour. The museum introduces visitors to the history of various Orders of Chivalry by presenting their exquisite badges, stars and collars - true masterpieces of art and craftsmanship, often lavishly decorated with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. Many are of an immense historical value as they once belonged to emperors, princes and princesses, famous military commanders, presidents, and politicians. Highlights of the collection include the Order of the White Eagle which belonged to Russian Emperor Peter the Great, insignia of the Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie and Britain’s Princess Mary’s star of the Order of the British Empire and many others. Tallinna Teletorn image
The view from Tallinn TV Tower is unique in Estonia as well as in all of Northern Europe. Under your feet are the woods of Muuga. The captivating Tallinn Old Town and the glistening Baltic Sea in all of its majestic glory are off in the distance. When Estonia was still behind the Iron Curtain, this was for many Estonians a window on the free world - at night one could even catch sight of the lights of Helsinki. To illustrate the view, visitors can use multimedia screens: to increase the area visible in it or seeing what the place looked like in the past. It is a view that must be seen. And - experienced! Bus information: The TV Tower is served by city buses 34A, 38 and 49 ("Teletorn" stop), as well as by CityTour and City Sightseeing tourist buses (green line, Mere pst - Teletorn). Handicapped-accessible. See more..

    - A beautiful Town Hall with Old Thomas
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
    Tallinna Raekoda image
This Town Hall is considered to be the most beautiful monument of late Gothic architecture preserved in its original state in the entire Baltic region. I think it’s true, I like it very much with Old Thomas (Vana Toomas) at the top of the tower (it is a wind indicator). He was a medieval brave hero, protector of the city. The building is located in the heart of the city. It’s a must-see attraction! See more..

The walls are lined with marvelleous unique pieces of bowls, wine glasses and carafs with elaborate ornamentation and colouring. The artist Kai Koppel creates them with her daughter by the hot furnace in the back in the same manner as in Medieval times. I selected a light green bowl covered with small glass knots. See more..

The 14 farms of the museum show the visitor the life of families of different income and occupation in the 18th-20th centuries. As in anyreal village, there is a church, an inn, a school, a number of mills, a fire station, a village shop and net sheds by the sea. Although 74 buildings have been brought over so far, the museum is far from being completed; it is constantly changing and developing. Kumu Art Museum image
This museum was opened in 2006. The modern building is designed by a Finnish architect Pekka Vapaavuori. This was our second visit after April 2006. Two days before our visit, we bought online tickets for the three Kadriorg museums (Kumu, Kadriorg, and Mikkel) for 22 euros (normal rate) and 16 euros (senior rate). There were problems delivering the tickets but it was solved after two emails. Luckily, this ticket is valid for one year because we did have time to visit just Kumu on this trip. There was so much to see. The permanent exhibitions feature Estonian art from the 18th century, art from the Soviet occupation (1941–1991), and Estonian contemporary art. There are also temporary exhibitions of both historical and contemporary art from Estonia and abroad. See more..

    - A good way to spend the day
    Neighborhoods
    Pirita image
Pirita Beach is close to Tallinn and hence popular, especially as it is only 15 minutes by bus,. The beach was clean and well maintained. It has small cubicles every 20-25 yards(metres) in which you can change. The beach backs onto a wood which is popular with cyclists, joggers and roller bladers. The sea is very shallow, even if you walk out 200 yards it is only 2-3 feet deep. By North Sea standards the water was warm, especially at the end of a sunny day. Pirita Beach is a good place to spend the day and Tallinn gives a fantastic drop. There is a good small supermarket (Rimi) in the shopping centre next to Pirita Beach bus stop. Supermarket sells sandwiches, note you are not allowed glass bottles on the beach. Bus is only 90 cents one way from Tallinn town centre to Pirita Beach See more..

    National Parks
    Lahemaa National Park image
Lahemaa, Estonia's largest national park is certainly worth a visit. Only an hour by car from Tallinn and the roads in the park are excellent. It has a lot on offer, so you have to choose if you only go 1 day. I stayed 3 days in Lahemaa and wasn't bored for 1 minute. I saw the lovely coastline with boulders in Käsmu and Altja, spent a pleasant afternoon on a very nice beach in Võsu. I visited 2 manors Palmse and Sagadi, both equally grand. Just pick one. Plenty of wooden houses, but the most beautiful are in Käsmu. A lot of forest ofcourse with many trails. The Viru bog trail is the best with a viewing tower in the middle. The Käsmu nature and culture trail with the many boulders is also good. Another good one is the bever trail. Something totally different was the urban-explorer-style visit to the abandoned Soviet submarine base. And also important I found excellent restaurants. See more..

At one point, the work ended, the drainage of water was stopped, and the quarry flooded. The industrial buildings, equipment, and trees were submerged. You can enter Rummu quarry at summertime or with prior booking as the area is private territory. At summertime you can visit our summercafe, swim, hike up to the hill or take part of Murru prison guided tours! See you in Rummu! See more..
