   One of the most beatiful places in Afghanistan is Band-e Amir lakes, 3 hours from Bamyan valley. This place is actually only tourist destination among Afghans (other destiantions are related to islam), extremely popular. Because the lakes are quite high (around 3 km), they are accessable only during summer season. You have to hire car with driver. Only 70 km from Bamyan, but very bumpy road. Usually foreign tourists take one-day trip, but Afghan familes stay for some days. Me and my husband visited the lakes in 2007. We walked around and stayed overnight at tent.    I was attached to the military base here in Bamyan. I have to say it's one of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever laid eyes on! There's so much history here in this province. If you ever find it safe enough to visit Afghanistan outside of military, Bamyan would be the one place I'd say you must see. You won't be sorry!! See more..
