Beautiful sites & impressive amount of shopping & dining
I was blown away by how many stores there are in this small port town. There's plenty of fine dining in the main square, too. I walked out to De Goese Golf for lunch just outside of town, too.

Cute little harbour
The city harbour of Goes is a very atmospheric spot and the views all around and towards the white Saint Martin bridge are lovely. Quay names like ‘Bierkade’ (Beer Quay) and ‘Turfkade’ (Peat Quay) remind of the days when goods like beer from Delft and Gouda and peat from Frisia were unloaded here. Today the harbour is a marina for small pleasure crafts. As architecture buffs we were delighted by the beautifully restored and diverse houses lining the quays. Many are from the 18th and 19th century, but some date back to the 16th century, like the attractive ‘gothic house’ at number 11 Turfkade, the ‘Huis de Baerse’ at number 44 Grote Kade and the ‘House of the three Magi’ at the corner of Bierkade and Koningstraat. Behind the posh 18th century facades of Grote Kade many older elements also remain. The small octagonal structure on the quayside at Turfkade (1647), decorated with reliefs of fish, used to house the fish auctioneer while the fishwives were waiting in the enclosed area outside.
